Canadian women’s rights had got a long history that dates back to 1892 when the Canadian for the very first time passed a criminal code that was to prohibit abortion in Canada as well as the prohibition of the sale, advertisements, and distribution of contraceptives. This was made as a response to the dramatic fertility decline among the Canadian women, for instance, there was 44% fertility decline in Ontario between 1871 and 1901 (Erdman, 2016). Canadian women have always sought for ways to ensure their fertility is under control. Despite the first criminal code passed, Canadian women continued seeking abortions. Activist Dr. Some provinces such as Brunswick required two doctor referrals and abortion costs were only covered for if performed in the hospitals, while there were no abortion providers in Prince Edward Island.

Besides, abortion was intentionally struck out of the arrangement in the provincial reciprocal billing and required a woman to fly back to her home so that her home province could cover for her medical funding. The Supreme Court went ahead in 1989 to rule that no man had any legal right to stop any woman from making a decision on abortion (Erdman, 2016). Besides, there were bills passed in 1990 that was in jail any doctor who performed an abortion while there is no sing harmful risk for the pregnant lady. However, this bill was stopped in the Senate. There have been introductions and entertainments of anti-abortion bills and motions in parliament. Therefore, abortion an issue of critical social justice and it is the responsibility of the good citizens to take actions and help fight the oppression of women reproductive rights.
