This was introduced to ensure that the lubricants and oils used in vehicles provided maximum quality and were in line with the environmental regulations. API SN is the new category of oil that is aimed at conserving the rate of energy consumption. There are other versions of the lubricant that have become extinct as the automotive industry has been changing. In this paper, we will use the classification of diesel engine oils as a representative of how evolution of these oils has happened over the years.
