For instance, the 2010 classification of the SN category included a new category of the resource conserving. The regulations on the oil have been improved over the years to meet the changing needs of the market. The API-SN was introduced in October 2010 and 2011 as a regulation regarding oil and lubricants for older vehicles (Petroleum Quality Institute of America). This was introduced to ensure that the lubricants and oils used in vehicles provided maximum quality and were in line with the environmental regulations. API SN is the new category of oil that is aimed at conserving the rate of energy consumption. There are other versions of the lubricant that have become extinct as the automotive industry has been changing. In this paper, we will use the classification of diesel engine oils as a representative of how evolution of these oils has happened over the years.
