The Human resource laws require that employees be offered equal pay as long as they are doing the same jobs and have the same skills. however, today the wages that women receive are 66% of the men’s pay (Lipsig, 1981). Research shows that factors like maternity leave, seniority and reduced hours for childcare cannot fill the huge wage gap between men and women. This gap is wide because of the high pay in the traditional men’s jobs” compared to the “women’s jobs”. Summary of existing facts Twin Oaks Hospital which serves a population of roughly 250,000. They also want a job evaluation to be done on the basis of comparative worth after which their wages would be adjusted accordingly. The problem comes in deciding whether valuing jobs on the basis of comparative worth is good or not.

After Hardy consults the two top aides, their argument differs. Janet Aides, one of the top aides is for the idea that they should go for this because of the large gap that exist between female and male jobs yet they have same level of education. In addition, she cites that there is growing need to adjust pay according to comparative worth in over 30 states. They usually ask for a pay rise to fit what others are being. If the same is not offered, they become demotivated which affects performance. Others, may leave the organization in search for better pastures. This can have a great impact in an organization. It can steal from some organizations employees who are very competent. In addition, wage discrimination could lead to poor performance among female employees because of a loss in motivation.

Women too may avoid the jobs that pay less and enter male dominated h=jobs leaving to shortage of personnel in those positions. The positions which are very important like childcare could also attract unqualified individuals. Recommendations to James Bledsoe I would advise James Bledsoe to give a go ahead for the 5% increase on the employees pay. Later, the personnel director to value jobs based on comparative worth should embark on a research to find out what other organizations like Bank of America has succeeded in doing it. They could even leave the organization. If comparative worth is not considered in Twin Oaks, the same will happen to the nurses and secretaries. They will feel that they are being treated unequally which could have a huge impact to the hospital.
