Now in this study published by Cell Press, the researchers have published a computational method which links individuals in an ancestry database to the ones in the law enforcement database. The two systems are found to be using absolutely different genetic marker systems, with bot giving more than 30 percent accurate match with the correct relative with the use of overlapping genetic markers from the two databases. In my own point of view, this research is important because it offers us a basis for discussing several issues which surround forensic genetics and genomic privacy. It helps in examining the extent to which different database types can be used for the same purpose. The research is also important for the community at large since it helps in making them aware that the information between the two database systems can be connected in a way which no one could have expected.
