Essay on Greed
Document Type:Essay
Subject Area:Accounting
Verse 24 of the same chapter warns that it is impossible to serve God while amassing wealth at the same time (Deffinbaugh, n. d). It is because Jesus the son of God was unconcerned about acquiring wealth as he was carrying out the work of God such that he has no place to lay his head. The only one of Jesus disciple who was concerned with wealth was Judas who betrayed Jesus just for 30 pieces of silver. The Bible explains that greed and the desire to amass a lot of wealth is what ruins and destroys people’s ability to serve God and become spiritual. The young man could not be able to follow Christ because he was after amassing a lot of wealth.
It shows that when an individual is greedy for the earthly pleasures, he is not able to fully love God. In many cases, people only turn to God for help when they are in need of his help when they lack not when they have plenty of wealth. Wealthy people become self-satisfied and attribute their wealth to their efforts rather than acknowledging that everything comes from God and the wealth is a gift from God. The wealth makes it easy to navigate the world and lead lives, and the more one derives enjoyment for the wealth the more they desire to store up earthly treasures instead of focusing on getting to heaven through focusing on God (Deffinbaugh, n. Not only does this affects a person reputation in public but also ruins any of their prospects.
