The transfer of microorganisms between human beings may occur indirectly from the environmental sources or directly through hands. The hands are known to be the principal route through which cross-infections occur (Ellingson, 2017). This makes hand hygiene a single and most critical factor in controlling infections. Hand washing is performed with the intention of removing the transient microorganisms rendering hands socially clean (World Health Organization 2015). According to Bolon (2016), the alcohol-based hand-rubbing solutions removes microorganisms effectively, causes less irritation to the patients’ hands and requires less time as compared to the hand washing with water and soap or some other antiseptics (Bolon, 2016). The CDC has advocated that the alcohol-based solutions are more effective for the hand antisepsis or standard hand washing than the antimicrobial soaps or plain soaps.
