A student first needs to take in written knowledge. This explains why elementary learning at tender age starts with reading syllables. Therefore no other skill taught in school to children is more important than reading. Students who fail to “learn to read” at the inception of education in the first three years, always encounter difficulties when it comes to “read to learn”. This is because their path of learning is blocked. Now I understand why I have to go to school and be taught the same English that I have spoken for years. Along my education, I have realized that learning in children begins with formal education. Children with stimulating culture of reading from their childhood have an edge generally in education but specifically in vocabulary development.

In contrast to this, children without any prior literacy background are at a great risk to fail when they join kindergarten. I belong to the former group. The teacher was my tower of strength. Her words kept me going daily. She was the reason why I stayed in class for an extra day. It has been three years since I began taking English classes. Of course things are getting harder and the learning environment is hotter than before. Of course the objective of the question was clear. It is because I was worried of the length of the book. I still went ahead to ask the duration it will take me to read the book, a question that was looked down upon by the teacher.

One wonders what my problem in reading books was. I disliked novels because of their length. I tried out as hard as I could to get the flow of this book. You had no option but to give in to the requirements of the teacher. She was unpredictable. Her questions were spontaneous that got me unaware. So I just had to be smart for the sake of her classes. Moreover I could give character traits of people like Troy who was unfaithful to her wife Rose. I could now analyze the themes in the book like racism. This is revealed when Africans were not employed as truck drivers in garbage collection. As a fast learner, I decide to make up for the time I had lost in the previous years in countering linguistic challenges.
