Obesity is a lifestyle condition that is as a result of overweight and it may precipitate other health risks in the body such as hypertension and diabetes. Statistically, over 54. 3% of adults in Montgomery County are obese and nearly in a ratio of 1: 10 approximately 36. 3% of children are obese. Over the last 1 year, the rate of obesity growth has increased by 6% rendering it a critical health issue that needs to be monitored and managed (Galloway-Gilliam, 2013). 6% of the grown-ups living in this county met the minimum requirement by national standards of taking 5 vegetables or fruits per day (Chriqui, Pickel, & Story, 2014). Also, poor breastfeeding practices among women who have infants also is a factor that causes overweight in children. Sedentary lifestyles promote the development of many diseases apart from obesity such as hypertension, diabetes and other chronic conditions.

It’s recommended by specialists that people should exercise 5 to 10 minutes a day as this would help to reduce cases of obesity. However, in this county, studies have shown that only small number of about 29% engage in these activities while about 21. Reaching out to these patients and enlightening them on how they can avoid such complications by ensuring they live a healthy lifestyle and reducing calorie intake and engaging in physical activity to prevent overweight that results in these conditions since prevention is better than cure. Nurses thus intervene by offering advisory role and also administering drugs to the obese patients and monitoring their progress in their pathway to recovery (Chriqui, Pickel, & Story, 2014). The scope of intervention can be improved by ensuring full access medical facilities where they can interact with nurses for the advisory role.
