The problem that has been hampering the services of the HMO Pharmacy as it has been identified by the manager majorly originates from the prescription stage. The chief problem is the deficiency of quality regulation to ensure the safety of the patients is protected by prescribing the right drugs that will be passed to the patients. It is, therefore, important for the management of the HMO pharmacy to embark on finding the root cause of the problem and then proceed to formulate the mitigation measures. Thus, the first and foremost step is to develop the process map that will aid in the prescription filling process. By use of the SIPOC model, the management of the HMO pharmacy will effectively identify the potential malfunctions faced by the institution.

In the HMO pharmacy, there are several areas that need to have some improvements in order to mitigate the chances of patients receiving the wrong prescription. The most salient obstacles that Ben are facing are originating from the following areas. First, the entire process is crippled due to lack of proper management. Lack of management is characterized by lack of adequate stock in the pharmacy and also the management of the staff is poorly organized thus making the occurrence of severe mistakes in service delivery to the patients. Prescription verification is absent at HMO pharmacy. A patient suffering from the side effects of a drug is an indication that patient did not receive correct instructions which could have originated from the pharmacy.

When a patient suffers from the side effects, it can trigger plenty of complaints from the customers and most probably this is one of the most likely reasons why the HMO Pharmacy Manager is been under the threat of being fired. Based on the analysis that I have conducted, it can be concluded that the chief causes of the problem that is confronting HMO pharmacy can be eliminated if proper management can be put in place. The welfare of the patients is paramount and for that reason, the management should undertake all possible means that will yield maximum improvement to the patients. To formulate a solution that will curb the problem, there is need to collect relevant data such as complaints of the customers as well as activities that are involved in the SIPOC model.
