It is the same way that hiding of some parts of the story strengthens it and makes it stronger and interesting upon analyzing it. In the story "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway's, the iceberg theory is extensively used. The symbolism that is a description of the theory is the major literary device in the story. In the "Hills Like White Elephants," only a very small percentage is directly describe but the better part requires analysis by the reader for it is hidden in symbols. The main agenda of the story is abortion. The choice of naming one of the majorly involved characters as the American Man is associated with the time of great depression the story was written. He is characterized as a man that had money but later it vanished into thin air.
