C, Christopher graduated from Washington Woodson high school in 1986. He later attended Emory University, graduating in 1990 after earning a bachelor's degree in Anthropology and History. Notably, Christopher McCandless, later in his life, changed his name to Alexander Supertramp to create a rift between his current and earlier life. Indeed, this enabled him to create a new experience for himself and to drive his life towards his expectations. In my opinion, Chris McCandless was right to change his name and take on the new persona of Alexander Supertramp since he was not happy with his previous name and also, wanted to be a master of his destiny. Interestingly, throughout his high school life, his classmates and teachers viewed him to be dancing to a different drum rhythm.

Alexander went for what made him happy. He was a pure transcendentalist. The search for a secure future is known to kill people's spirits and aspirations to adventure. Furthermore, for one to venture, they have to take risks, and since they can never be entirely sure about their next exploits, they commonly act from the gut. Thus, Alexander losing all his wealth from the family and his already secured future to adventure indicates that he was bold and daring. By distancing himself from the support of his family, Alexander ventured into a life of solitude that perfectly illustrates his independence. His courage is further indicated by his decision to explore Alaska (Bye, 2017, 122). Dauntlessly, he only carries with him a rifle and a small supply of food.

Indeed, few people will go exploring with such little food without knowing exactly where they are headed and the duration of the exploration. Instead, Alexander Supertramp set the influences and expectations from the society behind him and did what his heart told him to. As evidenced by the quote “It is easy, when you are young, to believe that what you desire is no less than what you deserve” (Krakauer, 2009, 155). Many people did not support what he did or dared to do (Zink, 2010, 29). In fact, up to date, some consider him selfish for leaving his secured future and family. Palpably, the opinion of the society did not matter to him. References Bye, S. Flight from destiny:'Into the wild'and the getting of wisdom.
