The 1920s were, therefore, a defining time for women sports. Women’s Amateur Athletic Federation was, therefore, a product of the struggles of women to participate in sports and have their achievements recognized. The organization was formed in 1926. 2 The primary objective of WAAF is to support women athletes in Canada and to recognize their often overlooked achievements. 3 The organization also aims to develop a culture of appreciation in the Canadian society, for the accomplishments of female athletes throughout the history of Canadian sports.
