Besides, I got a glimpse of the representation of this minority community in each decade. In the early decades, Americans were fascinated with the Indians as they were depicted as harmless beings. In fact, these early films portrayed the native Indians as noble heroes and white man's helpers. Things changed drastically and in the ‘30s, Native Indians were portrayed as aggressive while in the ‘60s, they were depicted as sensitive and free-spirited characters who were influenced largely by the Hippie culture. For long, this is the image I had of the Native Indians but the film changed my perception as I realized the representation was stereotypical. Reel Injun is attempting to tell the audience to respect the Native Americans just like they would with other people.
