Currently, the population is at 45 million, based on the projected growth of last census, done in 2009. The country is basically an agriculture-based economy, with most of their products finding market in Europe. It is the leading exporter of tea. Currently, according to the United Nations statistics, the unemployment in the country is alarming. It recently hit a record of 39. These institutions used to absorb skilled labor, both from graduate schools and the technical schools. With time the institutions were sold off to private investors. This was done at the expense of the generating funds for the government. Some of these institutions finally collapsed due to poor management – say Mumias Sugar Company. To worsen the situation, the country slowly become an importing country – with most of its products coming from the Far East.

At the end of the day, more and more youths are rendered jobless. ((National Economic and Social Council (Kenya), & Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis, 2011) 3. Over population – Currently, the population of Kenya is projected to be 43 million in the next one year. In 2009, the population of the country was actually 39 million. The rate at which the population grows is very alarming. Alternatively, Education system should focus on the skills of the students rather than making them concentrate on irrelevant stuff that they will not apply later in life. To reduce the general unemployment efficiently, the government has to play the greatest part in reviving all the dead manufacturing industries and the subsequently make ways of providing for home market(Biko, 2012).
