However, apart from labour exploitation, unskilled employees in foreign countries are usually socially vulnerable where cases including health issues are prevalent (Benach et al. Females who work in private homes are more vulnerable since they are employed in private homes as housekeepers. Therefore, it is extremely hard to monitor their wellness including potential ailments. According to the International Labour Organization 2013 report, housekeepers normally receive a low income, work long hours without enough rest. In addition, their culture is usually not considered by both their hosting family and the country. Within their working setting, the housekeepers are further affected by the occupational hazards such as long working hours, exploitation and injuries related to works. This is usually to some of the native’s culture where they believe that all household work should be done by the domestic worker.

As a result, the housekeepers get extremely tired with limited rest which eventually takes a toll on them. On the other hand, the housekeepers themselves believe are usually ready to take anything from their employers due to the conditions back at their home countries. This includes mistreatments such as low pay and physical abuse. • Discrimination. This another social determinant which poses challenges. This is usually due to their low social status which leads to mistreatment or not being given any priority when getting services including health services. • Gender is also another social determinant. Most if not all of the housekeepers are females. Some believe that by praying to God, they would eventually get healed which further poses great challenges. • Low income.

As a result of low income sometimes they cannot afford the required medical services. • Lack of education. Studies have shown that education is related to health, where the more educated one is the higher chances of taking care of themselves or seek expert advice in case of getting sick. Possible strategies and recommendations to address deficits I. Policies should be put in place where it is mandatory for the employers to give the housekeepers some time off to visit the doctors and get checks up. Also, the policies should ensure that the workers have a conducive working environment where they are allowed enough help. II. The Hong Kong medical health should provide a special department that deals with foreign workers such as Filipinos.

Apart from being overworked and low pay, the housekeepers have reported cases of being exposed to more occupational hazards including limited rest and lack of holidays which poses great challenges to the wellbeing. Social isolation is also another factor which greatly contributes to psychological issues such as traumas which are attributed to stress. Social determinants of health on Indonesians domestic workers in Hong Kong • The working environment is one of the social determinants which poses great health challenge. This is particularly due to the high levels of stress associated with longer working hours for the housekeepers. • Low income. They cannot explain their discomfort or symptoms which is a great challenge when it comes to the diagnosing the problem. Additionally, they can describe if they are recovering or getting worse. • Beliefs. Advising the employers to discuss the issues of the beliefs with their employees so as to eliminate the cultural notion about the drugs which Indonesian domestic workers have. Additionally, informing them about the advantages of prescribed drugs by the doctors and their effectiveness in treating the diagnosed ailments. iii. Conducting seminars and conferences to bridge the gap of education that the workers have.
