The reason as to why teenagers get depressed easily is because they experience emotional shifts at puberty because their internal chemistry begins to change (Rowe & Leanne et. al (3). However, in can be difficult to notice depression in teenagers because it is sometimes complicated and difficult to spot (Mondimore 3) but there are several symptoms associated with depression. Mondimore (6) explains that the “core symptom of depression is low mood”. This feeling often makes them unhappy and emotional and hence stress may come up resulting into depression. Therefore, even if parents are too busy working, they should at least set aside some time to spend with their children. The following can also be achieved when parents have time for their children.

Parental responsiveness Parental responsiveness mainly refers to “how much ready the parent is, to respond to the child’s needs” (Bachegalop 40). This is a very important solution to curb depression among teenagers. If a these expectations are not met, fear might develop among them leading to stress and hence depression. Therefore, it is the responsibility of parents to love, and provide security to their children. Assertive-democratic parenting Assertive democratic parenting refers to the kind of parenting where parents “spend their time working hard to make sure that they actively encourage their children take responsibility for what they have done” (Bachegalup 40). It is a high time for parents to exercise such kind of parenting; and be assertive regarding the decisions that their children make.
