The variances and similarities in the way people view life manifest themselves in their daily activities. For instance, despite the fact that both Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson were poets, their view of life was to some extent similar and different in some way. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences of both Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson’s view of life as brought up in their poems; Song of “Myself” and “Success is Counted Sweetness” respectively. Often, people set certain targets and objectives that they desire to achieve. Both Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson agree that to realize these targets and objectives, people have to put in the required efforts. Walt Whitman seems to acknowledge the existence of death when he says he is thirty-seven years old and he hopes that he will continue having good health until he dies (Whitman, 2016).
Similarly, Emily Dickinson acknowledges the existence of death when she notes that at times, those who worked so hard die before enjoying the fruits of their labour and all they can do is hear the triumph of their success from a distance (Analysis, 2012). Human are social beings and it was God’s design that they live and co-exist in love and harmony. Both Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson agree that people should at all times see and treat each other as brothers and sisters. In his poem “Song of Myself”, Walt Whitman notes that all men are his brothers and all women are his sisters and lovers (Whitman, 2016). There are a number of lessons that we can learn from the poems of both Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson.
First, we learn that to be successful, it is important that we work hard in all our daily tasks. As a matter of fact, success never comes on a silver platter. Consequently, we should never fear failure in all our undertakings. As Emily Dickinson notes, success is sweetest to those who have experienced failure before (Analysis, 2012). However, to achieve them, it is important that we observe the lessons that we learn from Walt Whitman’s poem “Song of Myself” and Emily Dickinson’s work of art “Success is Counted Sweetest (112)”. It is essential that we always be ready to work hard towards realizing our goals, live in love with others, and always be ready to serve the community at large. References Analysis, S.

Dickinson’s poems boarder on nature in its glorious existence and as such, its control over people.
