Not surprisingly, an analysis of American politics reveals that political debates revolve around policies that would protect and bring these ideals to life, as opposed to whether these ideals are right or wrong. The Statute of Liberty perhaps brings out one of the most treasured American political value- the right to liberty, the right of people to do what they want. America was born and when immigrants from Europe preferred its uninhabited country while in flight away from societies and governments that denied them freedoms of expression, religion, and governance as they saw fit. When Lincoln freed the slaves and called for a united country in the face of indifference from the South, he demonstrated political values that are seen even today- those of liberty, democracy, and unity.

Americans believe that the liberties accorded to them by their government are directly proportional to their happiness and fulfillment levels. 3) Why and how should you care about politics? Everyone should care about politics because there are many instances when “public decisions supersede private actions’. For instance, soon after the turn of the new millennium, American citizens turned to the government for help when the country was under threat from massive terrorism. The political decisions that the government at the time were at first popular but in afterthought, were criticized by many Americans. For instance, the Iraq war was widely regarded as unnecessary, yet it had cost billions of taxpayers’ money and the lives of many Americans.

It is politics that define wars, the economy, and even public healthcare. In today’s society, many mass killings are because of these free guns. Many Americans have abused the authority given unto them in gun ownership and have used them to harm others. Nonetheless, many Americans view gun ownership as a natural right that cannot be taken away from them and thus, it influences their votes. The twenty-second amendment established presidential term limits. The founders had the vision of setting the proper foundation for democracy and limiting presidential power. Nevertheless, the second amendment is still subject to debate. Many of America’s security problems can be attributed to the notion that is a natural right to own guns. Many Americans use this right to kill and commit other crimes needlessly.
