Bedside manners in nursing can be defined as the approach in which a nurse or any other healthcare professional treat their patients. This is important because good bedside manners are not only beneficial to the patients but also to the medical professionals themselves. Bedside manners helps the medicinal professionals in fulfilling their main objectives which are assisting their patients to respond to treatment and to heal from their ailments. Patients, for example, feel more at ease with medical professionals who have good interpersonal and communication skills which helps the patients trust on the nurses as well as their judgments on treatment. Nursing has some vital bedside manners such as compassion, empathy, understanding, attitude, body language and eye contact all of which assist in various specific ways in making the clinical environment for both patients and nurses conducive and effective.

A nurse that approach his or her work in a positive manner translates the same positive mood to their performance. A positive approach is also likely to spread to the patients who also helps them in creating effective communication and building trust between the two. This is beneficial to the patients as it helps them respond better to treatments as well as hastening their recovery from the ailments they are experiencing. Another important bedside manner that nurses require in professional setting is a good and effective body language. Like the other manners discusses above, good body language is essential in the development of trust between the nurse and the nurse as well as ensuring the patients feel that they are getting the attention and best treatment from their nurses.
