Is this charity, corporate philanthropy, CSR? The ideology of presenting corporate gifts during and after the natural disasters is more of corporate philanthropy and not CSR or Charity. To explain, the interest of the companies offering corporation gifts is beyond raising money and helping the need (charity) since the companies are opting to benefit due to their aids. These companies are massively assisting the affected communities so has to increase their chances of benefiting from the community economic programs. Who are the stakeholders considered when corporation make these altruistic decisions and why? Consumers, governments, investors, and employees are the primary stakeholders these corporations consider when making such decisions. The companies decide to participate in the rebuilding of the surrounding community after natural disasters with the interest of convincing their consumers that the company is concerned about their wellbeing.

Furthermore, these organizations help the governments to rebuild societies after natural calamities as witnessed in the case of Chevron, Amazon, and Foxconn in the recent hurricane disaster. Therefore, the incentives of the local governments to attract big companies play a fundamental role in the economic and social development of the societies. Should big business repay Houston’s generosity? The big corporation should repay Houston’s generosity. It is essential for the big companies to repay Houston’s generosity by numerous projects such as offering employment to the locals, helping the government to enhance infrastructure and helping during natural calamities.
