High school drug testing essay
Living together in the same society has not been easy among the different communities. However, through understanding and tolerance communities have been able to coexist peacefully with each other. The diverse communities have also deduced some of the ways which have enabled them to strengthen their ties a continue with the peace which exists between them (Anon 2015:69). This is through the following activities:- • Sports- sports has been one of the activities which the human race use to come together. Through this different cultures come together indifferent sports competitions a thing which enhances peace and togetherness. Education, therefore, becomes of the most important factors of enhancing peaceful existence among the human race. The human race has also been able to do many other things which are all aimed at creating peace and fairness.
Whenever there is no peace, trust cannot exist and this means that people will live in suspicion and fairness might not be exercised (Sharon 2018:97). As it stands, a generation that coexists peacefully is a generation that has been raised well will all the good morals the society and education could offer. Such a generation tents to live in a way that does away with some social evils such as drug abuse, drug trafficking, crimes, corruption among others. The school has been an environment that houses different types of students who come from different backgrounds which are both different morally and socially. The main problem that faces the counts who in the schools today is the issue of drug use and abuse among the youths who are in school.
High School Drug testing The level of education is very important in the development of the curriculum of education. It is in the best interest of any education stakeholder to see the success of an education system that produces students who have been trained well and are morally upright. Every teacher wants to see that all the students who have gone through his or her hands succeed in life. Reasons why drug testing is done in high schools Without rules and regulations, it would be impossible for any institution to be run effectively. Rules and regulations provide a guideline to how the subjects under that institution or organization should behave. They are the basis for ethical conduct among the subjects in the institution.
Ethical conduct is very important in the harmonious running of any institution or any organization. High school institutions also have their own set rules and regulations which assist the administration to control how the schools are run. This makes the school identify the characters which might promote the use of drugs among the high school students. • It helps the management to execute disciplinary measures to the victims. The rules set by every high school should apply to all students whatsoever (Kadek 2013:118). Disciplinary actions are taken against everyone who tests positive. This is a strategy of making the other students learn about the consequences of drug abuse. The learning theory states that the use of the brain is very essential especially in the retention of knowledge.
If drug use is not controlled in the high school institutions, the learning theory might not be of any effectiveness. The purpose of the school is to pass knowledge to the students who can process and absorb it. The influence of drugs could lower the level of learning among the students. Social control theory Social control theory says that people’s relationship, commitment, values, and beliefs encourage them to avoid breaking the law. The management could decide to involve all the students in the campaign against the use of drugs in the schools. This can be done through the following;- • Involving all the students in the campaign against drug abuse. This will ensure that all the students including those who abuse the drugs participate in the fight against drug abuse.
• Bringing the students together to propose the rules against drug abuse. This will make all the students feel a part of working to eradicate the usage of drugs in the school. The social theory does not entirely explain how to involve the already affected students and this does not help me come up with my problem statement. However, self-control theory acts as a good theory that helps me come up with my problem statement. This theory adds up to my problem statement and about how drug testing would impact the future behavior of the young generation in high school. High school drug testing is one of the efforts that the schools use to ensure that young adults in the schools have been brought up in a morally upright manner.
Through this method, the school ensures that they instill self-control in the students at an early stage. How might a problem run afoul concerning social power theory Social power theory involves the ability of one achieving the goals against the wills of the other party. It involves one superior power having their way at the expense of the other party which might be inferior. The one that has more power gets to do what they wish to be it evil or good without being opposed by the other party. The use of force of money might be associated with the theory. Through this theory, the powerful class could be opposed to the process of drug testing in the high schools. Generally, drug testing in high schools should be advocated to ensure that the young generation does not engage themselves in bad habits that are socially unaccepted (Amanda 2017:125).
