First we are going to look at the perception of the society to persons living with mental health disorders. For instance, many persons have a belief that people with mental health disorders are unpredictable, violent and dangerous. This is quite ironical as they are usually the victims of violent. (Hunt J. P. Again, Latinos, perceive medical diagnosis as social damaging. On the other hand, cultural teachings also offer different beliefs on the origin and nature of mental health disorders. For example, although several American Indian tribes do not have stigmatization of mental health disorders, some stigmatize specific mental illnesses, while other tribes basically stigmatize all mental health disorders. Another case scenario was seen among the Chinese Americans and European Americans where they were given a case in which some individuals were said to have mental health disorders.

The case in question was depression. In addition to that, we also have case management that helps to organize services for a person through the assistance of a case manager who assesses plans and implements several strategies to help the patient recover. Moreover, we talk about hospitalization in order to help the monitoring and diagnosing the mental ill patients to ensure that they recover as soon as possible. One other common treatment known to many is the support group as well as peer group which basically includes peers and nonprofessionals comprising of person who have suffered from similar mental illnesses and thus give guidance and advices among themselves through sharing feeling and experiences. In support groups also, deal also with people coping with behavioral and substance abuse such as alcohol abuse, drug abuse gambling, and shopping, video gaming and other behavioral addictions, anxiety and depression and eating disorders.

Moreover, there is complementary and alternative medicine that supplements the standard care administered. This is why several governments are making efforts to provide low cost consultation services for cases like depression and self-cutting. Therefore, this is to say that, the risk of experiencing mental health is usually higher for people who live in the bracket of poverty. Thus, mental health disorders are contributed by social, cultural, economic, political and environmental factors like standards of living, working conditions and social protection. For instance, difficult life events and situations affect the mental health as well as the residential opportunities of persons hence, increasing the chances that people with mental illnesses shall live in socio-economically deprived residences and by doing so leading to centralization of people with poor health in disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Persons living in poor socio-economic circumstances are at a higher risk of poor mental health and depression. All these are linked with bad mental outcomes. Finally, we shall look at contemporary issues concerning mental health and society. Our first contemporary issue is in the delivery of mental health services in Commonwealth countries. (Rickwood et all p. 185) One important factor to consider is in the change in the perception of mental health disorders and also the different variations of services offered. Therefore, taking mental health as a starting point for advocacy should be considered in sustainable development goals. There has however been a citation by commonwealth health ministers that the post 2015 development agenda could involve worldwide health coverage and look at unaccomplished targets in the Millennium Development Goals.

This new attention to mental health will be useful and beneficial to many. Another consideration would be in the formation of a Commonwealth Task Force whose sole responsibility shall be to oversee the clarification and documentation of mental health. However, priorities have to be set especially for the severe mental disorders in the health sector. Secondly, we shall look at mental health and law contemporary issues. These two aspects are vital. (Patel V. Et Al 1303-1313). A good scenario is where mental disorder rehabilitation and treatment modalities call for changes in how the law perceives issues related with mental health. In conclusion, this article has touched on the perception of mental health disorders by the society and also the perception of mental health illnesses by different ethnic groups.

Moreover, we have looked at several treatment approaches that can be administered to mental health patients such as exercise, good diet, support groups, peer groups, medication as well as hospitalization. In addition to that, we have also branched on the interrelation of poverty and mental health where we have seen that people who have lower income and lower socioeconomic conditions suffer a greater risk of being affected by mental health disorders. Finally, we have elaborated and discussed on two major contemporary issues in the mental health field.
