They are combined through a process of decomposition. Potassium Sulphide is rarely found compound because it readily reacts with moisture. There are many methods which are usually used in order to obtain the potassium sulfide. The first method is by dissolving potassium in the ammonia which is in liquid form. The other way is by reacting potassium sulfate with the carbon. Next is by burning a black powder which is also known as the gunpowder to produce the compound. Another method which is used for the preparation of potassium Sulphide is by treating potassium hydroxide with an excess of hydrogen Sulphide which further treatment with the same quantity of potassium hydroxide yields potassium Sulphide. The following is the description of potassium Sulphide in details. Potassium sulphide The common name for potassium Sulfides is the Liver of Sulfur. Potassium Sulphide was given the name liver because it had the structure of the liver. It was mainly composed of sulfur, and that is why it was called Liver of Sulfur.
