There are several approaches to carrying out a leadership duty. Some say that leadership is a particular call from God, but anyone can make a leader as long as one knows what a leader is required to do. We are leaders in different aspects of life, knowing or without knowing. For an organization like Service for the Underserved, a leadership that fully values and apprehend the universal leadership principles is needed. Very many theories have been developed about leadership and addressed by many scholars. Transformational leaders are concerned about achieving the needs and desires of their teams. Transformational leaders also have a high expectation of their staff to yield the best results due to being self-motivated. Transformation leadership has an impact of creating good team harmony and happiness among members.

This type of leadership has some strengths which include: • Fear free. Leaders are sure in exercising rule without fear of being rejected unlike autocracy type of leadership in which the leader makes demands the team members causing panic among them. The fourth category portrays a leader who is very focused to accomplish goals, organized and always prepared and plans before taking actions to be sure of the desired achievements. In the sixth category, the leadership traits that come out are for a leader who cares about others being a success as him or her. This is an obvious trait of a democratic leader, ensuring fairness. In the fifth category, the leader appears as unsacrificial since he/she can never let what is essential in life get lost in tight schedules activities of my days.

The leaders focus too much on things that contribute to the success of personal goals. It is natural that people are attracted to confident thinkers because they live an appositive life. A positive attitude attracts lucrative offers and possibilities. It is necessary that leaders motivate his/her team members to greatness. Great leaders always strive to include everyone in their circle of influence through the realization of the potentials of other people. Facilitating people and building the ability to realize change. Be more dedicated to the leadership role by the end of the year. The above two goals are considered to have all the aspects of a SMART goal. Beginning with the element of being specific, both goals have some planned activities.

For instance, in the first goal, the plan is to improve the level of leadership skills. Measurability is the primary goal is the increase in the leadership skills whereas, in the second goal, the measure is the increase in the commitment. Self-motivation is key in ensuring a leader is on the correct track. Your team member may not be in a position to motivate you, but it is upon one to know the times he or she has needs some motivation to help move forward. Above all, conducting periodical check-ins to evaluate one's progress should never be neglected. Self- evaluation will enable one to identify points of correction and motivation to ensure she/ he accomplishes the change. Conclusion The answer to the question of what an effective leader is can be obtained from the behavioral theory.

A sizeable number of the world's population is still stuck in absolute poverty with about forty-three million Americans living in poverty. Numerous non-profit making organization has since been formed in different parts of the world, each with different objectives and mission. in the united states of America, there are a number of these organizations that support its population and even other outside the nation. Examples of these institutions include United Way Worldwide, Service for Underserved, Task Force for Global Health, Salvation Army, Stand Alone Memphis, among others. These names organizations have established an excellent operating base to the extent that they deal with finances at the tune of billions.   Discovery and Analysis Brief History of Service for the Underserved In 1978, Seventh Day Adventist Charities was formed which had the roles of providing services to people who have never settled due to situations that are beyond their control and lives in and around New York.

As more needs arose, the organization also had to keep growing in capacity to cater for the needs. Three years later the organization opened the first cheap housing programme. A year then followed the construction of residential housing for adults with mental illness. In 1989, the organization changed the name to become the current Service for the Underserved (SUS). 2015: Service for the Underserved begins the first modern construction of a 63-unit housing and a primary care services at firm's Recovery Center. Organization's Structure and objectives Service for the Underserved has a central management based in the city of New York and several subunits of administration at different places within the New York State. The organization is led by a board of directors, an advisory council and executive staff.

The board of directors and the Executive Staff must provide vision, direction, and oversight to enable provision of tools and opportunity for the underserved people to fulfil their goals (Roy and Gurbani 2004).   The SUS governing objectives include: • Provision of cheap and affordable housing units to the people of New York. Listening Listening is among is the excellent quality of a leader. The difference between dictators and good leaders is brought about by their difference in levels of hearing. Dictators never listen or even give a chance to their subjects to express any grievances whereas good leaders always hear the people he/she seek to serve and put their feet in the shoes of the subjects before exercise their rule on them.

After all, the term leadership means being on the frontline, doing it first. It is true that innovation comes from listening. Its unique as it ascertains to working to all the people with needs. in ensuring that there is high quality deliverance of services, services for the underserved organization ensures its commitment in deliverance of services. How Current Leadership Affects Organization's Culture The current leadership is one of the best administrations that Service for the Underserved has had. An administration should be flexible, open and non-discriminate. The administration of the organization has provided a position for both men and women who had nothing in the society.   Organizations undertaking charity work are likely to have a regular life because many people and big companies would want to identify themselves with the organization as a way of promoting their brands.

There is also a high number of those helped by the organization coming back to improve as a way of appreciation. Through such voluntary works, Service for the Underserved can have free labor thus saving funds that would have been used in paying wages. It is a requirement by law that the board of directors is made up of volunteers which is a significant advantage to the organization. Another essential strength that Service for the Underserved enjoy is the exemption from paying taxes by the government. The organization can make a lot of the human resource that they get when people volunteer. It also saves the organization from spending finances on wages as volunteers do not demand payment for the services they render.

There are opportunities created by the excellent reputation of the organization. The organization has maintained a perfect brand image hence makes it easy for them to get support with little effort (Committee on Oral Health Access to Services 2011). Non-profit generating organizations such as Service for the Underserved is capable of regenerating additional funds through starting up a small business venture such as farming that will benefit the dependents. It is always very had for a non-profit organization to distinguish itself from others that commit in doing what they promote instead misuses the funds donated to them. This is a significant threat that can easily legitimize the organization. It is also not easy for the organization to grow in making positive changes with limited resources.

Service for the Underserved is an organization that can experience financial hiccup when the supporters withdraw their services. It is therefore upon the management of the organization to ensure that they fully deliver according to their manifesto to the citizens (Committee on Oral Health Access to Services 2011) For a non-profit generating organization to continue footing the hefty bills that arise due to increase in the demand of their services, they need to look for other alternative ways of getting extra cash that would enable them to accomplish their duties. Strengths of the Current Leadership of SUS The leadership of Service for the Underserved is composed of strategic thinkers who are tactical in the implantation of the policies and programs set. This is evident in the way the organization is doing the housing projects in faces that are easily manageable with the little resource at their disposal.

The leadership can also be referred to as that of servant leaders. In the 21st century, it is tough to find someone who dedicates himself/ herself in doing a job that will not bring bread on the table, but the leaders at SUS have opted to volunteer, cheers to them. The leadership is also very indiscriminate. The leaders should also develop skills to adapt, modify their tactics to suit the needs of the community for the general success of the organization. Conclusion The Service for the Underserved has been very successful. It is a very active part of the New York community that has made a lot of transformations regarding the settlement of people. The organization is ranked among the top performing charity organizations.
