Subject Area:Management
The banking sector is one of the vastest with numerous activities going on within it. The success of such industries especially in consideration of the direction they are projected to head into the future is almost impossible to anticipate due to several factors. It is not however entirely impossible to project the future in terms of profitability as there are several guiding market trends which have in the past offered guiding limelight in regards to profit trends (Bose & Mugambi, 2017). As we seek to predict the profitability trend of Emirates NBD, it is essential first to point out some of the factors that contribute to uncertainty in regards to how the profitability trends will be in future. Banking has evolved in a very significant manner over the years. The most significant structural change that has created more uncertainty in banking compared to any other factor is technology (Johnson & Babu, 2018).
The current trends show that the most significant threat to banking is technological factors such as Block chain technology which provides a solution to financial security and vulnerability of money that the banking system cannot offer. Block chain stores money in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin which are freely accessible at the owner’s convenience not forgetting the security they provide. This is far much beyond anything that banks have been able to contribute over their years of existence thus posing a very significant threat to banking (Al-Qirim et al. The technology is creating a huge impact more than earlier predicted with more people switching from banking with time. Threat of Entry The most significant threat not only for Emirates but also other banking sectors is the technology which so far provides the most considerable risk (Bose & Mugambi, 2017).
For a bank like Emirates NBD funded by the government, they have every form of resource to support themselves however emerging technological trends are a threat to any activity the bank may engage in (Sathish, & Mohamed, 2018). Customer Power We must not forget that customers determine where or where not to settle. With numerous options for them, banks like Emirates NBD can only hope to fall into the category of the most preferred institutions since they have no say when it comes to customer preference (Hiremath, Kumar, Bansode, Nulkar, Patil, & Murali, 2020). They have all the power to choose what they require. Most industries are known to make decisions blindly which leaves them in tricky situations some of which are entirely impossible to pull out of. Therefore it is essential to be aware of the threats in the market and take appropriate measures.
In the case of Emirates NBD, the essential strategy is keeping up with the market trends. The main challenge that Emirates face is emerging trends which may shift customer’s interest in other directions (Dayan, Zacca, & Di, 2013). Awareness of such factors is vital for it will help in preparation as the bank already knows what to expect. References Ajmal, M. M. Hussain, M. M. Alameeri, A. Khalil, A. A. Maqableh, M. A.
