An example is where social media consumers are capable of reading the online post of their friends without necessarily cooperating with those friends. This is different from the old ways of communication that included face to face talking. Our investigation is generally based on how social media has dramatically impacted relationship development in families, friends, and couples. In order to gather suitable results from the survey, we utilized primary and secondary Data sources in order to collect information from a variety of sources. Through the investigation, there was crucial information gathered on different ways on how social media has greatly impacted relationship development. Through these social media applications, the mode of communication has permanently changed while impacting various aspects of life through communication.

Moreover, there are many multiple end user new web sites that favors two means of communication and interaction. The most current website that has been designed allowing multiple end user to have two way of interaction is WhatsApp, an application that is stored on smartphones and tablets. This is an application that is considered to allow communication that is more personalized unlike other forms of social media. According to the research, social media can be measured via the occurrence of login, updates, interactions, and postage. Individuals who state that they are single are about thirty percent while married couples are around thirty-one percent, and, five percent says that they are engaged while three percent says they are in a complicated relationship (Gabrielle Savoie, 2018).

Considering this data, it is challenging to understand whether these individual status are correct or they are just fake information. There are high chances that social media can be friendly or rival in matters of relationship since the individuals are communicating remotely. In most cases, you find that individuals who claim that they are in a relationship met on social media platform and maybe they have never met to have a conversation face to face concerning their relationship. The greatest challenge of social media is that people try to be involved in a relationship when social media is linked. In order to have a good relationship on social media, it much depends on how an individual carries himself based on the post and comments they make.

Social media is a tool of great importance in the society beside various challenges that are faced through it in relationships. Through social media, many people have strengthened their relationship since it keeps them closer at all times where it is the cheapest mode of communication currently. If utilised in a correct manner, loneliness and depression are minimised with these virtual communication methods. Family members can count on the use of present-day social media platforms to connect with loved ones especially when distance is involved. They are able to find joy as they are able to communicate in real time. Couples rely greatly on social media to preserve their relationship. It assists to provide constant communication and builds bridges instead of walls. It is common to hear one say that too much of something is never good as the amount of time spent creates isolation which indirectly destroys social skills. They tend to be more brave and extroverted in the cyber world rather than a real one. The table below shows the usage of social media by age group. Their interaction is limited to online communication and in the long run, this may prove to be difficult for both parties. This creates a note of fragility and insecurity to the couple involved. For example, a boyfriend seeing messages on his girlfriend’s facebook statuses may encourage jealousy or trust issues. Due to their inability to meet one another, social media is relied upon to stay in touch. Distance which was once crucial in the formation of a relationship has become a thing of the past. It is important to note that the Parent-Child relationship provide the fundamentals to peer relationships (Collins & Laursen, 2004). Young adults that strive for independence and freedom will choose to form a stronger bond with their peers which in turn will lead to a waning emotional reliance for their parents (Furnman & Buhrmester, 1992). Statistics have also shown that online relationship aren’t as simple as it seems. The Netflix series 13 Reasons Why provides a great insight when discussing the social behaviour of young adults and the role played by social media. The series discusses a number of issues faced by young adults such as bullying, self-injury and abuse which are increasingly rampant in the lives of young adults today. Although many have deemed the topics to be sensitive, its content in the series can assist to create an open dialogue between adults and young adults rather than shut down a discussion which once deemed taboo. Social media and Relationships Humans crave for kinship and acceptance and social media allows this need to take place. Young adults use Facebook as means to connect and communicate. The prolonged use of this mode of communication can have a negative impact on the development of the user (Blaising, 2014). A growing teenager evolving to young adulthood will soon develop romantic relationships and the relationships formed via these platforms are entirely different than those established through traditional means. In physical connections, the individual involved will be able to experience feelings such as embarrassment, anxiety, uneasiness and excitement which is part of a growing relationship (Gudagno, Okdie & Kruse, 2011). When face to face communication is not available, individuals try to include imaginations and meaning to look for relationships on social media. The conflict resolution process in most cases seems to be effective, and communication with the truth might be unseen in the interaction. Digital gifts and other gift giving practices in social media turn the event focused act of handing over a gift as a present for a special occasion into an everyday practice and, in doing so, significantly affect relationship evolution (Skågeby, 2010). The feeling of missing out is not something new.  This phenomenon however has accelerated over the years due to soaring social media usage on mobile devices. Their usage would involve immediate communication with other users, sorting of their appointments and even navigation. This dependence has important repercussions.  A person no longer feels the need to retain information in their head as a mobile device is able to provide an instantaneous solution to their needs. In the past a person would need to depend on printed materials or another human being for knowledge. The modern age however, has changed this and information is available in the palm of the hand.
