Moreover, poverty and inequality propagated through self-perceptions, stereotypes and societal norms create an environment for elitism to thrive hence causing public dissatisfaction especially among the oppressed poor. The solution for poverty lies in collective responsibility to ensure proper education for all and equal access to basic healthcare. Elitism in the US Firstly, elitism in the United States continues to thrive through the established educational system which promotes social stratification as well as racial discrimination. The whole educational system sustains class distinctions in a manner that is alarming. The education system in the US creates a ridge between schools dominated by the affluent in society and the middle and low-class students. The solution for creating equality is to restore the dignity of education by the government’s dedication to ensure that quality education is accessible to both the rich and the less fortunate in the society. Right from elementary education, the government in the US should make sure that the quality of teachers meets the standard expected to guarantee future admission to higher institutions of learning. A gap of approximately $9000 exists between the privileged elites and the working class in Britain. The finding creates a mixture of discrimination and elitism, causing some professions to be closed to others while other professions remain open for all to venture. Consequently, people with low self-esteem fail to reach their full potential through an underlying fear of failure and lack of courage to achieve the unthinkable. The perception creates an opportunity for accepting poverty as normal and making no concerted efforts to overcome the barriers to social and economic success.

Also, the feeling of inferiority may creep in and cause people to maintain a dwarfed mentality which is blind to the opportunities for growth within the society, leading to poverty. Secondly, internalized stereotypes create an opportunity for elitism to thrive in the society. The assumptions that people living in the low-class make include normative or descriptive assumptions about people or members of a group. The desire for acceptance in society creates a need to moderate actions to suit the ideologies and dictates of the society. The result of conforming to the norms of society is an acceptance of elitism, and withdrawal from putting up a fierce battle to overcome poverty since many of the people around do not believe that there is hope of ever achieving better living standards.
