Due to this reason, she is not able to enjoy sexual activity with her fiancé. She believes that the quality of her relationship has been affected due her current situation. The patient sought help at the Department of Children and Family services. Dealing with such patient needs implementation of the appropriate patient engagement techniques. Patient engagement is highly recognized as an integral part of health care and an important element of safe people-centered services. Engaged patients can make decisions concerning their own healthcare outcomes and aspirations (Walsh, 2008). Resources are required to facilitate the fulfillment of the patients’ priorities. This approach is essential for sustainability of healthcare structures worldwide. People seeking for healthcare services are increasing demanding for more quality, open, responsive, and transparent health care resources. They expect healthcare professionals to involve them in decision making during treatment processes. However, individual patients may vary significantly in their preference for such involvement. Healthcare professionals have numerous competing priorities which may tend to conflict or contradict patient safety and preferences (Cooper & Lesser, 2014). These factors include reputational, financial priorities, self-esteem, and organizational. However, patients may use their safety and well-being as primary determinants, thus they employ this as a priority in the care they subjected to. Patient engagement may encourage mutual accountability and understanding between patients and health care systems. In most many countries, primary care is often the primary contact of patients with healthcare providers. Therefore, primary care is the basis element of the healthcare system. Primary care providers are in prime position to engage patients about their circumstances, conditions, and health needs.

Patients Protection and Affordable Care promotes patient engagement at primary care level. This means that patients have increased stake in healthcare systems. In health care settings, healthcare providers employ a concept known as “bio-psycho-social” model to guide their health care assessments and patient engagement initiatives. The bio-psycho-social theory assumes that mental health illness is never ever limited to just single domain of human experience. Instead, mental health conditions are problems are influenced by multiple factors arising from human experiences, thus having biological (medical), psychological (social), and social/spiritual effects (Van Hook, 2014). For instance, it is perceived that someone suffering from depression has an underlying medical condition such as heart attack or HIV/AIDS that is fueling the condition. Therefore, in this case, it can be regarded that the young woman is suffering from other underlining biological, social, and psychological impacts.

Informed decisions can be made at any time provided that all the elements and categories arising from bio-psycho-social factors are competently addressed. Review of the Theory and Empirical Support When professional mental health practitioners are asked to assess what is wrong with a patient, they can examine the patient broadly by employing bio-psycho-social theory. This theory has been widely used to enhance patient engagement and provide sound solutions regarding mental health conditions. Mental health clinicians believe that mental illnesses are caused by biological, social, and psychological instabilities (Lovallo, 2015). When an individual is not biologically, socially, and psychologically stable, they are likely to develop mental health problems. When it comes to psychological treatment, the patient may be taken through cognitive therapy to improve his mental condition. It is also possible to treat mental illness through social means.

For example, the patient may be urged to interact with friends and other people regardless of the material cause of the mental condition. All these methods are critical in helping and lifting depressed moods. It is important to note that these methods can be applied at once despite their varying natures and origins. The application of biopsychosocial has provided a wide and comprehensive scope in understanding mental health determinants. This includes a special focus on doctor-patient relationship which is a key element in patient intervention (Santos et al. Being part of the client’s social environment, the doctor needs to establish an awareness on how his/her interactions with the patient may influence the wellbeing of the patient. It is apparent that the biopsychosocial model has shaped client-centered approaches which has now been integrated into Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The model outlines the importance of doctor-client relationship as one of the primary indicators for establishing a patient-centered health care system. Since biopsychosocial theory has successfully advocated for a more comprehensive understanding of the underlying factors behind mental health the responsibility of care has stretched beyond the responsibility of traditional mental health care professionals alone (Santos et al. The treatment intervention for mental patients requires collaborations from diverse professionals within the general health care system. Therefore, biopsychosocial approach has allowed for a conceptually more holistic comprehension of mental health conditions; expanding not only the awareness of numerous determinants of mental health, but also the responsibility of care. However, the theory does not exist without limitations as far as how this new medical paradigm can be implemented. Criticism have been developed against the biopsychosocial model with suggestions that it is cost ineffective and time consuming in its application.

Due to the nature of the assault, the woman has gradually developed depression and currently needs help. There are multiple treatment interventions that can be employed to treat this client. However, due to insightful analysis, it is coming out that it is only biopsychosocial model that is ideal for her situation. The client reports that she has been experiencing mental health difficulties since the incident happened. The incident has made her not to enjoy sexual experience with her fiancé. The only way to remedy her painful experience is to seek the services of a physician who is professionally knowledgeable about biological determinants. The sexual needs to engage in normal sexual experience without feeling pain, for this to be achieved, her biological difficulties will have to be fixed. The client does not have many friends and the relationships she tried to establish in past have not been successful. Her relationship with women have been ruined. The lack of this skill may result into severe depression. Self-Evaluation Experience is very valuable concept in any professional undertaking. The modern healthcare system is shifting towards patients-centered system. Health care providers are now required to involve the clients in decision making. This means, patient’s views need to be integrated in treatment mechanisms. For instance, she appears uncomfortable taking about sex. After commencing the treatment procedures, I learnt that it was possible to employ all three treatment interventions at once. It is effective to do this way to facilitate the patient’s treatment procedures.
