Geostrategic Problems Essay
The paper will also highlight the regions that are severely affected by the geostrategic issues that will be identified. Geostrategic problems in Africa Climate change has affected the African continent severely; there have been cases of severe droughts, floods, change in weather patterns which poses a significant risk in food security in Africa. Climate changes in Africa lead to migration from the adversely affected areas to the least affected, this migration leads to overpopulation in some areas while leaving others sparsely populated. It also leads to competition for the limited available natural resources which in turn destabilizes the political stability. Flooding causes displacement of people, destruction of agricultural produce and deaths. The technology used in China is transferred into the African countries hence replicating the same industrial problems faced in China.
Environmental pollution has been witnessed in recent years in Africa as a result of industrialization (Nzau, 2010). Due to lack of access to proper protective gear in some of the industries with toxic emissions, some of the workers in Africa are exposed to harmful toxins which lower the quality of life. Africa seems to be copying what some of the advanced countries practices in the early years while ignoring the adverse effects that those countries faced. For example Africa has welcomed the use of mobile phone made from China some of which are substandard, dumping of such faulty phones causes biodegradation and is also toxic to human health. Climate change in China has also led to the development of cancer villages. These are the area that has been labelled as unfit for human survival due to their pollution that has made them cancer harbouring areas.
These cancer-prone areas are as a result of the heavy presence of industries that emit high volumes of pollutants. China faces immense rural to urban migration; the rural-urban migrants are faced with many challenges in the city. Access to the basic needs is limited since they cannot afford proper housing, medication, and education. Russia has little to limit the carbon levels being emitted as compared to China. Russia is faced by the problem of extensive logging which erodes the soil cover and also leads to high amounts of carbon, this, in turn, affects the climate for example leading to reduced rains and flooding. Nuclear contamination is another primary agent of climate change in Russia; it causes environmental pollutions. The clean water is polluted due to the contamination. Russia is facing drastic climatic changes for example flooding and deadly storms, but the efforts to mitigate such climate changes are very few (Rahman, 2016).
The harsh environment develops health complications which eventually lead to deaths. High reliance on coal energy in the industries has also affected the environment negatively due to the carbon released to the environment (Allakhverdov, 2004). Africa is a continent that has so much untapped potential and is in the path of developing. It is more likely to copy from the developed countries especially like China. There has been an influx of Chinese investors in Africa whose main aim is to make money. CLIMATE CHANGE: Russia, Reluctantly, Backs Kyoto.
