How did the development of industrial society in the colonial empires lead to the Great War

The new factories have been set up were the obvious choices. Colonialism gave Britain the opportunity to have a huge captivity in marketing the industrial goods. The sudden growth of Britain’s Empire was fueled by the industrial societies. For example, the British had an advantage over the rest of the world since they an advantage of scientific methods. The same case applied to the approach by Jared Diamond in guns, steel, and germs. The newly invented technologies in addition with the old war tactics resulted in a total carnage that left the world in shock. The colonial empires aided in mass productions. This one of the deadliest weapon that was used in the war, in the presence of mass production, weapons were produced faster than before making some of the deadliest weapons such as machine guns and rifles common weapons.

Mass production also led to vehicles such as tanks and cars be manufactured with the new technology (Shutt, 2015). The industrial society greatly contributed to the Great War with the increase in industrialization tensing up the world. If a battalion commander who flagged of the war in 1914 were to be moved four years after that is 1918 as the war was ending, he or she could be amused due to the advanced military technologies. The Great War experienced three modern tactics of fighting that brought about the change and balance of power between the attacker and the defender. The three warfighting shifts happened at almost the same time rendering the military skills before 1914 completely obsolete. The new tactics they learned with the techniques they already had, and the new procedures were to be tested and tried.

This resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of troops on all sides plus innocent citizens. The urge to control the sky led to the control of the sea through the submarine. The introduction of the aircraft and the submarine made the heavy gun battleship almost obsolete (Zabecki, 2015). The third shift in the Great War was introducing the depth. In the past, most battles started where they met. The negotiation and decisions were also made in the contact point. Military soldiers such as Hans von Seeckt and Heinz Guderian implemented the plan showing its potential to use the modern communication and the technology of the internal combustion engine. They discovered that large groups of soldiers using tracks and wheels and controlled by the radios could destroy the front line of the enemy’s and disorganize its rear hence be able to easily defeat them.

The tests were carried out in Poland with the aim of knowing the strengths and its weaknesses. In the year 1940, the success of the technique was at its maximum in France and other low countries. (Quyen, 2016). Tactically, the crew assigned the tanks were ill-trained and in less than a month they had already abandoned them on the road since they could not fix the simple mechanical problem. Strategically, most of the competent commanders of the Red armies were killed or imprisoned during the Stalin’s Great Purge of 1937. The competent soldiers had the idea of the armored warfare but after their deaths and their imprisonment the upcoming generals either had no knowledge on armored warfare or were too afraid to use the disgraced Tukhachevsky’s tactics (Quyen, 2016).

In the 20th and 21st century, are the civilian population’s legitimate targets for military operations? Discuss, using examples and give reasons for your answer The civilian’s populations have become the legitimate targets for military operations. Civilians enjoy the protections from the government but if in any case, they engage in a hostile situation they become the target for the military operations. Le, 2013). For example, during the civil war in America, General William Sherman portrayed a good example of a total war. He realized that the civilians were in direct participation with the Confederate Army and they were indeed providing them with guns, foods and other resources which could help them win the war. So the general realized that if he destroyed the civilian resources he would be able to cut off the help of the Confederate army and also cut off a shot the morale of the civilians.

His main aim was for the civilians to feel the hard hand of war. Automobiles existed even before the 19th century but were only used by the rich since it was very expensive to purchase one but all this were made easier by Henry Ford by making the useful gadget easily accessible to the American public. Ford came up with a new strategy for automobile manufacturing known as an assembly line. He resolved to pay his workers $5 per day while others received just $2 as a way of giving morale with the aim to increase productivity and also to be able to buy cars with their increased wage. Ford also reduced the options and gave the public the opportunity to order any type of color they wanted their car with.

The model T was sold for $490 in the year 1914 which was a quarter the cost in the previous decade. The drivers were in great need of cheap and fast foods so that they could be back on their way. Unfortunately, with the growth of the new businesses, the old ones were abandoned. For example, after the introduction of the automobile, the nation’s railways were neglected. The effects of the automobile were great and appreciated by everybody. There was also freedom of choice as well as freedom of movement. The radio was not common and people were amazed by the new invention where you would buy and take it home to listen to it. In Pittsburgh located in the United States, the first radio station to be licensed was KDKA.

It started its broadcast at the rooftop of the factory-owning the station. In a real sense, only a few people owned a radio and on the night of the election, the KDKA news broadcasted the victory of Warren G. Harding’s as the new president (SMITH, 2014). However, there was no connection in terms of the word but by use of Morse code messages between ships with the mainland station. In the case of distress, the ship would send a message via the radio to ask for the nearby vessels for help. The radio was also used in the First World War. Europe’s famous radio station known as the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) was started in the year 1922. Broadcasts started locally in London, and by 1925 it had already reached the United Kingdom.

The vacuum cleaner was another invention of the new household’s appliances. It was first manufactured in the year 1860 by the American inventor known as Daniel Hess. He nicknamed the vacuum cleaner as carpet sweeper. The machine had a brush at the bottom with a rotating motor and two water chambers so that it can capture dust and dirt. By the year 1920, the vacuum cleaner was among the household items that were purchased and put in the house. Discuss the ways technology both hampers and encourages a sustainable lifestyle in the 21st century? Technology is the most popular topic when it comes to achieving a comfortable lifestyle during the 21st century. For one to attain a sustainable lifestyle, he or she has to implement technology effectively and use it in a practical pragmatic way.

The aim of technology is to ensure that it is time-saving and increases the end results or outcomes. For example, technology aides in the education sector and can be used as a tool for learning (Reubold, 2014). Technology in today’s century is used across the world from the communication sector to the transport sector and even in today’s household. Technology has been embraced in the households too. In the past, the house was only used for sleeping or relaxing after a busy day at work, today this has been enhanced and made comfortable through the implementation of technology. The house is no equipped with a television set with various channels for entertainment and update on what is going around, the house has a fan that cools the house in the case of heat.

The house is equipped with electricity unlike the olden time one would use a candle or kerosene lamp (Reubold, 2014). Technology is a tool that makes life easier and much appreciated. There are various varieties of television sets available and it is the choice for one to purchase. Not everyone embraces technology. In the case of mobile phones, there are different types of mobile phones with various features. It is the choice of someone to either purchase a smart android phone or an iPhone. Travelling has also been made easier due to technology. Technology has also improved communication (Ramey, 2012). Communication is used by people to deliver information. It is used as a medium of exchange in communicating with one another. For example, in the campaigns era, the politicians use televisions and radios as a medium for reaching the voters and encouraging them to vote for him or her.
