Working with Air and Sea Travel was phenomenal. I learned on the qualities which make a leading hotel manager, customizing individual travel for tourists and preparing for international group escorted tours. I am lucky to find the opportunity to work for the Air & Sea Travel company through LinkedIn. It came as one of the many suggestions that LinkedIn keeps pushing to all its network members based on the qualifications and skills shared on it. I immediately applied by visiting the website and submitting all the required documents to the Human Resources department. The Travel agency has succeeded in the past two decades because of the excellent customer relations and affordable flight charges. Vision and mission statement of the Air & Sea Travel: to provide the best professional service with a professional, friendly touch.

To provide affordable travel destination, offer forums for multiple cultures, and diverse people with convenient and reliable travel services. Department I served in the travel management department. Air & Sea Travel is a small company, categorized under small corporations whose workforce is of the range 1-50. All operations to be executed relied on communication. As a desk assistant, I was required to have all the information the tourists visiting the business premises could demand. Literacy on the travel tours to all the continents was the most crucial skill and knowledge needed. To achieve a tight schedule of duties assigned, I had to be self-disciplined because close supervision from seniors could not help much. On interacting with clients for the first month, I learned that due to our diversity, some customers get offended by things I consider as not being irritable.

Total team engagement satisfies workers which instill loyalty to the company. The one-time training in schools of tourism is never enough to meet the dynamic market of tourism. I observed that regular training to members is appropriate to equip them with the latest trends of hospitality and tourism. Training sessions remind already competent members what they may have forgotten. Training also adds new abilities educates the less sophisticated ways of doing things. Training, therefore, is a mandatory exercise that will bring all workers to speed and market expectations. The first step is orientation. Integration or orientation to the firm improves productivity and performance through informed positive employee relationships, enlightenment on work procedures, and information of work standards. To integrate new teams quickly, there must be an orientation program that contains all the necessary information new hires need to know.

The management will delegate different departments with orientation duties. Some countries have a culture of people feeling bound to act in a particular way as established by the norms of society. A person cannot only behave the way they would like to because of the existing formalities. Most African and Asian countries are collectivist cultural grounds (Merkin 2015). Individualistic societies, on the other hand, have people acting independently on their own. A majority of European countries take the individualistic nature. People from America love addressing each other with surnames, something resentful to do for the middle east citizens. In a nutshell, power distance, time culture, collectivism and individualism are some of the cultural factors that should be understood to serve customers satisfactorily (Merkin 2015). Theory-based Solutions Promotion of Air & Sea Travel (TIM 304 Principle of Travel Industry Marketing) Air & Sea Travel agency is an international company that deals with customers from all over the world.

It has taken its advertisement to all social media platforms and its website (http://airseatvl. com) to reach the world. There ought to be a comprehensive salary plan that merits an employee based on their output. One other way of ensuring equitable and competitive rewarding is listening more to the internal inequalities amongst workers than from competing firms. The internal environment is a more emergency need to address than from competitors because once workers are satisfied, they will seldom leave (Bennett et al. An observation on the way my director Chloe Liu had to solve inconsistencies in employees regularly proved that even the sharpest of employees could forget basics of the workplace. The vision, mission, objectives, and goals of the Air and Sea were ignored in the mind of some employees. The gamut of Chinese food is a sea of endless diversity that must be ventured to attract more Chinese tourists.

The tourism and hospitality sector should never allow any chance of a visitor to talk ill of a practice that is avoidable. Social media in cases of mediocrity or ineptitude works as a detrimental weapon to dissatisfied tourists who can tarnish a company's reputation that has been built in many decades or even centuries. Description of Manager/ Supervisor / Mentor My head at the Air & Sea Travel was Chloe Liu, an operations director in the company. Chloe is a Japanese lady who has been in the agency since the year 2004. On her side, it made her work a lot easier and reduced the frequency of conflicts of uncompleted tasks. Allocation of roles took all people into account. On my assistance desk, I always had work to do and reported to deliver to her.

Good managers should always delegate duties to workers to make use of their talent and creativity. Ms. According to DuBois, as opposed to the inborn traits, skills acquired through learning apply to particular situations, e. g. making difficult decisions when it is not fashionable to do so (2015). Communication perhaps is the most significant ability Chloe was endowed with. All efficient managers have top-quality communication capabilities. TIM/ Business Theories Supporting these Traits Trait Theories Trait theories advocate that people are naturally-born leaders (Nawaz and Irfanullah 2016). For Chloe, it could be a combination of many factors. There is enough evidence that she has an innate resolve in making things happen. Self-confidence and courage come out naturally from Chloe Liu. Many people are capable managers, but they have not found any chance so far to demonstrate their prowess.

They are always out to gather information on how employees are reacting to the policies rolled by the management team. Such leaders fall under behavioral theories of leadership. There are others who are oriented in how people will get encouraged to produce more (Rodionova and Elena, 2016). Chloe was a good one in this area—she could listen to our opinions and move a step ahead of coaching and mentoring all her juniors to be better professionals. Impact of the Manager I stand indebted again and again to my director of tour operations, Chloe Liu for the visionary, and empowering leadership she espoused. The first step I took to achieve this was asking for a company manual. I was very inquisitive on operations of travel and accommodation, allocation of tickets and marketing of the tourism facilities.

The greatest challenge I had was serving in the travel management department as the group desk assistant all through without being changed to another docket. The beautiful thing with the position of a group desk assistance is that it had a good amount of information to learn from as an attaché. The second goal I had was to create useful contacts for future professional practice and business. I gained a great deal from my contact with her. The most challenging part of this goal was that I was the junior-most staff member and I could not exercise managerial authority on anyone. The most important thing is that I learned how to manage people with different personalities practically. Self-Assessment The internship came in handy when I needed it most to equip myself with relevant skills for professional practice.

On the many skills I gained, communication stood out most. The fundamental concepts of comfortable accommodation, touring, meals, transportation, and communication were all theories. I have earned myself skills which I believe have made me a better young professional. In addition to the skills, my network of experts has increased making my future auspicious and promising. Summary An internship is an inexorably important phase of career development for any student. As employers are moving a notch higher in their expectations of competence from the employees, it necessitates graduating body of students to be thoroughly equipped with requisite skills for their profession. edu/files/elearning/integrating/integrating-handbook. pdf.
