Lifestyle factors such as nutrition play a key role in the causing cardiovascular disease. Policy goal Improving overall health of Canadians by reducing prevalence of nutrition related diseases. General objectives By 2030, the overall health of Canadians s will be improved in quality as well as quantity. Deaths caused by lifestyle disease will be reduced by half. Projects to implement the policy • Surveillance of nutrition • Project for nutrition education • Project for obesity and nutrition related diseases. Policy elements to improve the quality of diets. Information on diet is readily available in the public domain. This has its loophole since once in a while there are contradictions on dietary information on what constitutes a dietary plan. One message that has been contradictory is low fat.

Fats have been replaced by processed sugars which have offered a worse alternative. Some of the strategies that can be employed include • Reformulation of sugar levels in processed foods and drinks • Limit advertising of products laden with recessed foods • Improve training of health professionals who can influence food choices of communities • Use nutritional profiling to define drinks and foods high in sugar. Nutritional Status A complete assessment of nutritional status includes the determination on dietary intake, clinical, and biochemical measurements. Scientists have reviewed each factor in assessing nutrition status among populations. One primary parameter that affects nutritional status is the consumption of foods with lower concentrations/inadequate nutrients. Some of the factors that influence intake of healthy diets include ethnic, pathological, socioeconomic, and psychological factors.
