In such cases, the child must find ways of preserving trust in untrustworthy people, find safety in an unsafe place, control in places that are unpredictably terrifying, and power is helplessness situations. According to Herman, when children cannot avoid, they will try to appease their abuser through automatic obedience demonstration. The abuser’s rule enforcement in conjunction with the fear of death from the children yields paradoxical outcome. On the other hand, it convinces the children how helpless they are and how their resistance is futile. Many children come to point of developing some beliefs that their abuser have supernatural powers, which makes them read their thoughts and for this reason they can be able to control their lives entirely. Children are motivated to prove their loyalty and compliance through the notion. D. Parents who are disarmed by intimidation should intervene if they care enough and fight. Children feel that they are abandoned for their fate and they resent more to the abandonment than the abuse. In the climates of relationships that have been profoundly been disrupted, children face formidable tasks of development. Even the one with the ability cannot rely on it every time. When unable to alter reality, the child builds a system that justifies it. Some children come to conclusion that their innate badness is the main cause (Herman, 1992). The child reaches a point of accepting that if she is bad then her parents are good. If she is bad she has driven her parents to mistreat her and she can try someday to earn their forgiveness and at that moment she will win the protection and care that such a child desperately yearns for.
