The cultural beliefs on abnormal psychology influence the treatment intervention adopted. Most aspects inspected in abnormal behavior have been attributed to superstition. In Egypt, hysteria and other forms of abnormal behavior were blamed on demon possession and thus, exorcism was considered as an appropriate intervention. The Greeks attributed some of the abnormal behavior of delusions, wondering and violence to gods. Given that they lined the behavior to gods, the Greeks could stone, exorcise, torture, talk therapy or administer drugs on the patient (Nolen-Hoeksema & Rector, 2015). Biological theories determine the general behavior of an individual. Defining the behavior gives a simple classification of an individual as either normal or abnormal. It is worth noting that biological factors consider the behavior of an individual at the expense of the environment. The therapy involves interactions between the patient and a trained therapist. The approach was proposed by Sigmund Fraud who first tried to explore the unconscious through hypnosis (Barlow, Allen, & Choate, 2016). The therapist identifies the causes of the diseases and tries to help the patient overcome them. The weakness of the approach is it allows for the subjectivity of the part of the therapist.

Humanistic therapy The therapy centers on the belief that a person can attain their full potential through self-awareness. The process is permanent and rare in modern medicine. Eclectic Approach The eclectic approach combines various forms of therapy whose selection is influenced by the patient’s problems. Conclusion Abnormal psychology considers the general behavior of an individual. Classification of abnormal behavior is dependent on the behavioral, psychological and the interpersonal relations that occur between an individual.
