According to Margaret Rouse, access control is “a security technique that can be used to regulate who or what can view or use resources in a computing environment”. There are two components of access control that is physical and logical. The latter limits access to buildings, campuses, rooms as well as physical IT assets. On the other hand, logical access limits links to computer networks, data as well as system files (Margaret, 2014). The key of access control system is to ensure that only those people who are designated to a given place or item have an access to it. On the other hand, access cards as well as recent photo identification cards will be integrated to work with the electronic proximity readers.

Whoever will want to enter into the dormitory at any time will need to have a proximity card will has been configured with the system. As soon as the card is read, it will immediately send the report to the access control server for verification. If it is verified the door will be unlocked and the person will be let in. According to consultants, an access control servers “servers the central database and file manager for the access control system; and is responsible for recording system activity, and distributing information to and from the access control field panels” (Consultants, 2014). Configuration step I) Power up Equipment a) Ensure system powers up II) Configure Equipment a) Configure Access Control System Unit as well as Server III) Integrate system a) Integrate cameras and system 5.

Testing and monitoring step I) Test equipment a) ACS-Door opens and locks b) Test the cameras to make sure that they work and rotate c) Test the servers so as to make sure that it is recording appropriately. II) Monitor system a). Monitor the performance of the system to make sure that it is working appropriately Gantt chart illustrating the steps Diagram showing how the Access Control System works The scope of the project Our core purpose is to set up an access control system into the student housing room. The main function of this Access Control System is to unlock the student housing doors automatically by utilizing an electronic proximity reader which has been integrated into the prevailing security camera system.

Work framework The initial step will involve utilizing the prevailing blueprints of the school student housing to enable us to appropriately place the readers at the entrance of the doors in order to be in close proximity for the attachment of cables as well as other related hardware. For the initial step of step one we are supposed to measure the distance from the entrance door back to the equipment in order to be aware of the cable length needed as well as any extra length required for maintenance. The second step of step one is where we run all the cabling starting from the readers to the server switch, then to the server, main computer as well as rewiring the cameras so as to enable compatibility with new system.

Secondly, we will utilize RJ45 crimpers to end all the connectors to the CAT6 cabling before connecting the cables to servers switch, then link the switch to the server as well as the server to the chief computer. The first step of this second needs a network tester for testing the connections from the readers to the servers up-to the cameras in order to have complete connectivity as well as good signal strength. Finding out the length of CAT 6 cabling needed. Running the cabling from readers to switch, server, cameras as well as the main computer. Ending the connections on cabling and linking them to the equipment 5. Testing connectivity of all connections and recalibrating security cameras. Loading all application software on the central host server, software for proximity readers as well as facial recognition software.
