The increased need by the student’s activists to have the curriculum changed to offer Asian American studies which would focus on their history, their experiences and culture was a tough journey. At long last, the Asian American studies were introduced to the United States although its adoption was on a slow move and begun to be taught. It is now gaining momentum. ` Chan is one kind of Asian American studies advocate considering the processes and the fights she had to go to be able to establish the faculty of Asian American studies in the university. She was faced with many blocks and even to some extent she was referred to as a ‘gatekeeper’ due to her pioneering work in an attempt to start up the studies.

This way they can be able to champion their interest and compete favorably with the majority in the community. The need to have equity in all practices is the main thing that was driving the students to have the Asian American studies incorporated into the university and college curriculum. The fact that the Asian American community was considered a minority and deemed less fortunate really disadvantaged them because they could not be able to enjoy other privileges as their American counterparts. They were being discriminated on the bases of the black color as compared to the white who are the Americans. The ‘importation’ of the Asian as laborers and those who came as professionals were the core source of the Asian American community.

Also, the faculty employees who had been recently employed by the faculty of Asian American studies in the University of California wanted a quick appraisal for their ranks based on the fact that they wanted to equate to the members of the other faculties considering they were in for a small community. This could not be accepted as it was out of order for the university. I have also witnessed in several occasions and different contexts that the disadvantaged or less advantaged in any way want to be treated differently from others. For example, a case for the disabled person who wanted to be served in the bank before others. He was not much affected by his disability as only the hands had some problems and he could easily walk.

The Asian American studies that are now gaining momentum for their introduction in various universities in the United States helps students to understand the history of Asian American community covering the immigration topics and the policies based on the race. The Asian American studies give an academic avenue that helps to address the oppression based on ethnic or racial affiliation and capitalism at home. In support of Chan, the two (Kwong, 1995, Prashad 2006) have also demonstrated in their respective works that the Asian American persons in all the setups want special treatment. Asian Americans considering themselves disadvantaged as compared to the other communities makes them want to be treated especially from the others. This, however, one would want to look at it would be a way of discriminating amongst other groups, and it would not be showing the equity that everybody would want.

However, they experience the glass ceiling due to their limitation of ethnicity. On the other hand, there is the class of Asian American communities who live in poor houses due to their low wages. The two distinct classes have different experiences and the professionals who experience the glass ceiling might be interested in combating the ceiling whereas the low class Asian American community members, are interested in minimum wage enforcement and the police protection for their lives. The issue of class profiling has been emphasized on by (Prashad 2006) The existence of the Asians in America was as a result of immigration and their adoption to take up the low paying jobs. These Asians have expanded to a large extent such that they cannot be underestimated.

However, the researches on Asian American studies focuses on the understanding of the Asians history culture and the religion practices and their experiences in America. It looks into the practices of the Asians living in the United States. Both (Kwong, 1995, Prashad 2006) have demonstrated that the introduction of Asian American studies is not an easy journey and they have to bear with their first acceptance to the American community which is in the frontline discrimination against them. The studies would also be of a challenge considering that they have to fight for the prestigious jobs and vacancies despite being professionals. Their discrimination in American society is the basis of an argument for the problems and challenges that this community face in its attempt to push agendas forward.
