His name later changed to Bob Marley after a comment was made that his first name, Nesta, sounded like a girl’s name. He grew up in St. Ann with a vision of becoming a musician. At the age of sixteen years, he formed Wailing Wailers with four other friends. They composed their first song `Simmer Down` which was produced by Clement Coxsone Dodd the owner of studio one recording in 1972. By 1978, Bob Marley & the Wailers had become popular a thing that influenced the release of their fourth album Kaya. It was the band’s biggest success in U. K, getting to the Top 5 with the advance singles ‘Is this Love’ and ‘Satisfy My Soul’. “Could You Be loved” and “Uprising” singles in the group’s fifth album, Survival, could have done very well had Marley not fallen ill.

He was forced to cancel the planned tour for promoting the album. Bob Marley was an international icon for peace, love, and better politics. His music exceeded all cultures, ages and classes. His life in music was influenced by environmental factors like social, economic and family issues. The sadness, love and other societal issues that confronted people living in the Caribbean motivated him to sing. This gave the people in the region the first time experience of self acceptance and the guts to confront issues. His song “One Love” was inspired by the desire to unite people from different ethnicities and ensure equality among everyone across the world. He reinforced his religious beliefs in his song “Jah Live” and “Rasta man Vibration”.

Bob Marley’s contribution to Reggae music is recognized internationally. “One Love” received massive votes for being the best song while “Exodus”, became the most appreciated album of the twentieth century. This reception inspired other Reggae musicians from Jamaica and across the globe. What made Bob Marley even great was the extent of his lines. He addressed issues that resonated with the common person: revolution, liberation, love, peace and values. To the lives of the Caribbeans, Bob Marley still remains to be the political activist who impacted the lives of many. He rose against discrimination on accounts of race, religion and skin color and educated people on how to appreciate each other regardless of their differences in color and race. In his Rastaman Vibration album, Bob Marley’s ‘Rat Race’ song condemned the political violence that rose belatedly 1970s in his country, Jamaica.

He condemned the police for brutally oppressing the citizens in the lower part of the economic ladder. He spoke on their behalf. The Africans specifically, as he observes, were treated in a very oppressing manner. White people were considered to be first class citizens and Africans as second class citizens. He boldly confronted this practice and impacted into the lives of Africans the confidence to fight for equal rights. Bob Marley in his song ‘Rebel Music’, led the fight for their rights to practice Rastafarianism rituals, the use of Marijuana was one of them. His solidarity was backed by other followers and liberated them from the repression. The Caribbean people are children of African Slaves. Through Bob Marley’s songs, they valued their narration and strived to realize prominence.

Tourism industry in the Caribbean took shape from early seventies when Bob Marley’s music got to international levels. His music contributed to the development of his great personality, which made him, deliver messages in ways he believed were right.
