I saw over three hundred visual artists in addition to more than a hundred performers who came from the entirety of Australia during the four days of the feast and experience the culture. It is one of Australia’s most anticipated cultural events that ensure people experience the indigenous rich history of the people. There were thousands of people who had come to visualize the culture that had taken root in the lives of people. There were many indigenous artists in addition to different galleries that were unique in their own sense. The aim of the three-day event was to keep culture strong. Additionally, it was made distinctively from feathers which attracted many tourists (CIAF, 2018). On the second day, I interacted with the Aboriginals in their art exhibitions.

Tradition coupled with innovation was the order as I got to debate with them about the tiny details of the exhibition. It was eye-opening to view the artwork and be mesmerized by how creative people can be. Screen-prints, ceramics, wooden carvings and acrylic paintings were among the many pieces of art that dotted the event. For instance, there was one of a cheeky man with red legs. Adjacent to that was a crafted shark that was depicted devouring a person who had entered its waters. Most importantly, it was also made of fish-net. Naomi Hobson an artist from Lockhart River displayed photographs which on further investigation, I realized she had received a prize in. Cairns Cultural event was at the forefront of rewarding artists whose art stood out from the rest in the most distinctive and representative way imaginable.

Girringum also succeeded in giving them a contemporary approach to the traditional forms by using recycled fly screen doors in Abe Muriata rather than lawyer cane (Marks, 2018). CIAF, as it is commonly abbreviated I noticed was a fertile place where the artists met up and shared ideas. Most of the artists originate from places that are sparsely populated and may therefore not find the perfect time to meet and exchange ideas. Despite the event being culturally and traditionally motivates, there were also some people who were out there with selfish interests. The organizers stressed that works that were not authentic to the Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders were not in any way serving the interests of the people. The community artists need to make a living from the sale of the cultures’ artifacts.

Fair enough, it will encourage the current sellers in addition to new and up-coming artists who will find the place fertile for their ideas. As a member of the younger generation, I am pleased to participate in a program like this that allows me to experience and increase the perception of Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. In addition to the artifacts, visual and performing arts wrapped up the experience by bringing a lively mood and charm into the people. I felt part and parcel of the culture of the community and appreciated it for its uniqueness. au/entertainment/art-and-design/indigenous-fashion-leaves-bold-impression-at-cairns-art-fair-20180716-p4zrrq. html Marks, K.
