Communication Skills Assessment
The key factor to excellent communication skills is getting to understand one’s role as a communicator and stating the message in the clear and the way receivers will comprehend. I used google search to assess my communication skills by typing Personal communication assessment. It brought me an option for, ‘How good are your communication skills?’ by the Mind Tools Editorial team at www. Mindtools. com. My score for decoding was 15 out of 20. It suggests that I do a lot of talking without letting the other person talk. Therefore, I noted that when receiving the message, I should let the other person talk and take the role as a listener for a better understanding of the message. Being a good listener offers one chance to interpret the message as the sender intends it to reach me.
Assessing what’s already working for me is the first step that will help me identify the areas that I need further training to improve my communication skills. References Cornelissen, J. Cornelissen, J. P. Corporate communication: A guide to theory and practice. Sage.
