The main roads in this city are Burgundy Street, Rosanna Road, Banksia Street and Upper Heidelberg Road. There is also a railway station, Heidelberg railway station, located in the suburb on the Hurstbridge line. The station is served by Metro Trains Melbourne. In addition to this, there is a local bus transport hub services in the area. The good transport network in the area provides a perfect location for a health institution due to easy movement of medical resources as well as fast reaction to emergencies. There is evidence of Heidelberg's long history and early settlement to be found throughout the Municipality. Heidelberg's rural scenery was a great attraction to artists during the 1880s, due to the absence of public utilities such as a railway.

In the 2016 Census, there were 6,225 people in Heidelberg. Of these, 48. 5% were male and 51. 9% are unoccupied. Of occupied private dwellings, 48. 5% are separate houses, 19. 0% are semi-detached, row or terrace houses, townhouses among others. 8% are flats or apartments. There were 3,283 people who reported being in the labour force according to the 2016 census. Of these 58. 5% were employed full time, 31. 0% were employed part-time and 5. 2% were unemployed. Of people aged 15 and over, 13. 5% have completed Year 12 as their highest level of educational attainment, 8. 8% have completed a Certificate III or IV and 9. 3% have completed an Advanced Diploma or Diploma. are well informed about matters concerning health since most of them have gone through modern education systems and are more likely to accept and appreciate efforts of bringing a health facility to them.

Austin Hospital is one of two major teaching hospitals in Melbourne. The University of Melbourne Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, Psychology and Physiotherapy are based with Austin Health. Other tertiary institutions affiliated including Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and La Trobe University for allied health programs. Teaching and training is also offered to students from Monash University, Deakin University, Swinburne University of Technology, Victoria University of Technology and the Australian Catholic University. There are also other research institutes affiliated with the Austin Health including the National Stroke Research Institute (NSRI), neurosciences research with the Brain Research Institute (BRI), epilepsy research with the Epilepsy Research Institute (ERI) among others. For example, airing of informative radio programs and ads can be a very effective way of reaching thousands of listeners.

Heidelberg has a few social clubs operating in the area most of which are dedicated to the community activities such as sports, environment conservation, gardening and other social activities. The Heidelberg Golf Club is an example of such an organization. The club also offers services to locals such as location for all corporate, charity and other entertainment events. The city is also home to several football clubs. This helps in monitoring the overall behaviors and health progress of the people as a group hence giving a more accurate evaluation of the community in health and other important matters (Wenbberg & Gittelson, 2013). For example, the presence of schools means that immunization can be done to students as a group with the help of the schools’ administration and hence keep track of immunized people through available records.

This therefore impacts the health of the community in a very positive manner. In a community with diverse cultures, Heidelberg id prone to social conflicts from time to time ranging from minor disagreements to ideological disputes.
