This paper seeks to analyze and critique quantitative research on a specific article. It is a primary goal of any institution that is producing nursing students to implement and encourage critical thinking in students. Use of hand-held technology has been identified as a clinical tool for application to support evidence-based practice. Smartphones have also been determined to have emerged as a way of encouraging critical thinking and clinical decision making when caring for patients. Smartphones are being used by professional nursing in data management and data accessibility. Using resources of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) resulted into reduction of medical errors; reduced health cost by the patients led to improved diagnostic reasoning and also promoted right protocol treatments. Use of hand-held technology started about twenty years ago, and so many applications are available today for download (Sedgwick, 2016).
The researcher used pretest-protest research design. The participants were fourth year's students at Researchers University that were finalizing their preceptor ship. A sample of thirty participants was used (Sedgwick, 2016). Nurse educator should encourage skills and strategies aimed at improving essential thinking capacities among nurses. The study also concluded that students should be held accountable for any clinical decision they make when using mobile phone technology. It is thus upon the educators to produce students who can make proper choices when dealing with patients. Under the nursing context, a nurse with the ability to think critically can make sound decisions (Sedgwick, 2016). The evidence presented can be critiqued in many ways. A code number was assigned to each respondent to enhance their confidentiality. Those who participated had free access to the app without charge as a way of compensation (Augustine, 2016).
The study had strengths and weaknesses. The first strength was that the researcher tested the reliability of the questionnaires which makes it possible to rely on the results. Review of Literature The goals of the person-centered approach involve respecting personhood despite the impairment that the patient has.
According to Fith et al, 2014 when personhood of an individual is taken into account, then the patient with dementia get the same respect and status which makes him be viewed as a social being. Data collection used was observation and interview. Data Analysis Data were managed using N-Vivo 8 software. Data were coded using patients feeling under inclusion, attachment, occupation, comfort, and identity. Data obtained from the five feelings were categorized into three categories. The three groups are poor care, proper care and missed attention. There was the need to consider individual level. The conclusion that healthcare determines how hospital staff offers self-care support was generalized, yet only general hospitals were involved (Fitch et al, 2014).
