It will be appropriate to study her since it will be easier to seek her parent’s consent. The observation was on her playing activities and interaction with her parents. More information was obtained through interviewing the parents. This data will be used to formulate and predict the future development of children who are five years old. Background Information Marcia is a female child who is 5 years of age. One is older than her while the other one is the family’s lastborn. There are so many children within their neighborhoods who have always given Marcia playing Company. Marcia is about 14 kilograms pounds and 40 inches tall. Biological Factors When interviewing Marcia, she had difficulties in talking. She talked while occasionally being interrupted by coughing. Bjornson, 2013). The author also indicates that it is a viral infection preceded 2-3 days of nonspecific cough and fever.

Marcia is weighs 14 kilograms in weight. This was something to do with her feeding habits. Marcia seems to be having a poor appetite for food. The girl is being independent. Even the mother admits that she likes doing things for herself. This is a sign of development in any age. The child does not need to be told what to do. She observes the routine activities that the mother does to her and she develops skills to do it alone next time. The child is portrayed as one who cannot control her anger (Appendix A). Similarly, she expresses her dissatisfaction when she gets opposition from some of her friends. In literature, Benjamin Hinnant describes the empathy experience as involving both cognitive and emotional components. The author further reveals that response of children empathy is related to cognitive perspective.

There is hypothesis that perspective taking skills and control of emotions is most evident among boys than in girls (Hinnant, 2010). Her father is a teacher and hence this can be thought of as the factor influencing her good performance. Edward Melhusih studied the preschool and home environment on the numeracy and literacy achievement in schools. He found out that there is powerful association between the home learning environment and preschool entry (Melhuish et al, 2008). Therefore both environment of home and the profession of her parents were significant to her literacy and numeracy. Her mother regulates her social behaviors. Whatever she learns at the beginning will greatly impact her life several years to come as the child interacts with various people. Social Factors Marcia is from a family where both parents are working.

The family looks stable. In the observation, the father is from work. He arrives in a car. The following are her family characteristics. The family is composed of dual parents. The parents are probably in their thirties. It was not possible for them to reveal their ages to me. It becomes sometimes hard to ask people to reveal their ages. Marcia’s residential suburb has many children within. There are so many children in the neighborhood. They come in to play with her. She has many friends who come to play within a short time (Appendix A). Similarly, the father also has workmates who comes in. Predictions Marcia is one of those children described as faddy. Eating problem is common to toddlers and they are likely to have weight altering in the next five years.

However this does not mean that she will be weak. It will depend on the kind of diet that she is feeding from. Marcia might be having low appetite because of excessive milk drinking. As much as the child seems social, he is likely to be proud in future. Marcia dislikes it when she is being challenged. This is a characteristic of a proud person. They argue loudly. She wakes up, takes her book with her and run back to the house. she comes shouting “am right! Mom says am right!”. She colors them. The gate opens. All children stare at the oncoming vehicle. Marcia runs towards it. Father comes out of the white car. She takes the luggage and heads to the house. Marcia engages with her father’s phone playing games. A sound is heard outside. Another child enters the compound carrying more toys. All the children run out to meet the child. They all leave their little pots and follow her. she serves them with snacks. She tells them that if they were good then leprechaun will put some gold in their pots. Marcia frowns more. She tells her mum that she has no pot.

She jumps up and screams loudly “he was here, he was here!” 4:52 other kids joined in and shout. At this time Marcia has run away with the pot to show it off to her mother. Mother claps for her. she takes the pot to the house. The rest of the children are now on standing. Marcia joins her father who is I his study room. Summary Playing with Toys – 20% Contact with the mother – 15% Interacting with books – 18% Physical exercise – 3% Interaction with her father – 4% Eating Snakes – 13% Taking Medication – 5% Appendix B Age and Stage Questionnaire I interacted with Marcia or a period of 30 minutes after observing her for the last one hour. The discussion began by asking her about basic information. I asked her about her name, the school she goes to and her class.

She was only able to tell one of her two names. Although she could not explain more than just what was asked which was a bit challenging to me. She often used symbol to respond to questions. For example when asked which game she plays most, she responded by showing me one of her toys. When asked about her friends, she said pointed at one of the group photos that they had taken together. Appendix C Interview with caregiver • The mother said that she has Marcia is always in the Company of other kids. • It is important that the caregiver finds something positive to commend about in Marcia’s activities. • She has noted the patience within her daughter. “Marcia might even be open to reason with me or even her father” says her mother.
