For instance, the historical background, social construct, religion, and economic activities are likely to influence whether the family in question is ready to seek medical intervention or not. The knowledge of the family belief is fundamentally necessary as it gives room for designing appropriate approaches that would guarantee safety, well-being, and permanency of the whole family members. The purpose of this paper is to engage a family as a way of establishing their strengths and weaknesses to help in developing a care plan that focuses on the safety interventions. The family described here is that of a newly married couple, comprising Alex and Mary; 25 and 23 years respectively. Alex and Mary got married in college after their long-term relationship resulted in the conception of their first son, Collins currently three years.

Unfortunately, her mother forgot to take her for the-nine-month immunization procedure. In summary, the family was struggling financially and was unable to supply the essential amenities including support for the pre-school program for their son (Inal, Altintas & Dogan, 2017). These disparities make Alex and Mary a good model for the sake of this assessment. Family Assessment The assessment of Alex and Mary’s family involved the use of Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM), a tool that would enable nurses to organize information regarding this family (Inal, Altintas & Dogan, 2017). The CFAM focuses on three core family attributes – functional, structural, and developmental aspects; all captured under Alex-Mary family. Collins usually wakes up at around 8 in the morning, ensuring his mother and sister are equally awake.

Typically, Collins attends his pre-school classes thrice a week, that is, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. During this period, Mary remains behind tending to other house chores including laundry and cleaning. Fortunately, for the other days that Collins is not at school, he usually plays with his sister, Amanda. Since Mary does not know how to cook well, the family does not have an organized dinner; hence, they eat whatever comes their way. Alex dictates the financial matters since he is the sole source of income while Mary focuses on caretaking responsibilities. Structural Assessment Nurses usually complete the family assessment based on its structural alignment. Under this category, three core aspects are under consideration; firstly, the connection among family members, and the context of the family.

Finally, they analyze who is in the family (Simpson, 2015). Studies indicate an active link between the family’s internal, external, and external structures with its well-being. The extended family includes the generations within which the identified family falls. Similarly, a review of the more significant system determines the contact existing between the family of interest and other social agencies or personnel (Wang, Gallo, Fleisher & Miller, 2011). Mary’s extended family, comprising of three generations, lives in Washington. Her mother, Eunice, is barely 50 and is an overweight patient. Besides, she developed drug addiction as a result of the bipolar medical condition. The only sad bit is that Stella has diabetes and is on conventional drugs. Like the case of Mary, Alex’s father is an alcoholic addict who divorced his wife when Alex was still a toddler.

Other than Silas, Alex has a sister, Caroline, who gave birth two children – Fred and Lin aged 7 and five respectively. The genogram is a summary of the generational relationship among the families mentioned. The Larger System Alex enjoys his more excellent relationship with his close workmates whom he highly regards for their consistent emotional and financial support. Mostly, the family suffers from the concept of perceived susceptibility as a result of negligence to administer core medical attention such as immunization to their young children. For instance, Amanda failed to receive the 9-month vaccination despite the historical lineage complications such as diabetes and obesity as well as cancer. The family should find it ideal to perceive medical attention as a core element for healthy living.
