Health promotion when done effectively, there will be increased awareness from the public thus encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle. Removing healthcare disparities is not an easy task and requires that healthcare providers, healthcare organizations and politicians work together as a team. Significantly, improving the overall health of the population is the responsibility of all healthcare professionals and other interdisciplinary teams. In this paper, healthcare inequalities will be defined. The nine health determinants will be discussed and how these can influence health disparities. Additionally, Hispanics are a large minority group in the United States that has an uneven burden of illnesses associated with diabetes (Lai, Alfaifi, & Althemery, 2016). It is imperative that all healthcare professionals understand that with the effective intervention’s healthcare disparities can be prevented.

Notably, appropriate maternal healthcare services from trained healthcare professional at the time of birth and early referrals to obstetrician services are linked with a reduced number of morbidity and mortality rate of the mother and her unborn child (Ganle, 2016). Health Determinant The advanced nurse can ensure that every individual receives equal healthcare services. It is necessary to understand that the health of an individual can be prompted by many motives. Studies show that 37 percent of adults in the United States have or at a high risk of having diabetes. Between the year 2011 and 2012, the incidence of diabetes was assessed to be 12% to 14 % in adults (Dejesus et al. Moreover, disparities are determined by the three health statistics. One of them is the incidence rate which adds up all the entire cost of the disease.

This statistical analysis is effective but involves a large amount of information. Ultimately, Diabetes prevention interventions should focus on early diagnosing and management that can be accessible to everyone. Cultural Considerations Culture has a great impact on an individual’s overall health and their community. Culture affects the patient’s families, customs, beliefs, and behaviors. For example, some culture may believe in spiritual healing and or herbal medications instead of getting medical treatment. Others may see diseases and health disabilities as a curse or that sickness may be cured without any treatment. Lastly, advanced nurses that are culturally competent understand their patient’s culture, enhances the effectiveness of the patient care and deliver high-quality care. Health Literacy Challenges Health literacy is important to understand health.

Patients need to have health literacy to understand their health information and to make the best healthcare decisions. People that have health care literacy can live a longer life because they understand their disorders and can properly manage their current health conditions. The knowledge prevents many acute and chronic diseases. The ultimate goal should focus on enhancing these patient’s literacy skills. Health Promotion Theory Health promoting theories and model guide the nursing practice to promote health and prevent disease. These theories seek to help nurses influence their patients to live a healthy lifestyle. Some health promoting theories have focused on behavioral changes. These theories try to understand and explain why and how people behave towards their health. When caring for their patients the advanced nurse should take into consideration the patients social, economic and physical environment.

The above aspects have a great impact on a patient’s overall wellbeing. Healthcare providers have a role of ensuring that patients get the right information on how to manage their health effectively. Patients need to be encouraged to take control over their health, with interventions that promote a wholesome lifestyle.
