Through theories, nurses get to decide what they know and what they don’t. A defined body of theory ensures improved communication among nurses, enhances professional status of the nurses, results to better patient care, and acts as a guide to education and research. The theory Joyce Travelbee developed (1926 to 1973) the human-to-human relationship model. One, it is viewed that different people experience suffering in varying ways, in terms of its duration, intensity and even the depth (Petiprin, 2017). Therefore, suffering makes people uneasy and at times it even leads to discomforts and it impacts on the people emotionally, physically, and mentally. Moreover, the theory takes into consideration meaning when it comes to growing relationships as a person-specific reason (Haugan, 2014). Theory testing The general emphasize of the model is that nursing can be accomplished if there exist relationships among the patients and the nurses. The relationship starts with the initial emerging identities and the development of both sympathetic and empathetic feelings (Petiprin, 2017). Through the theory, people get to understand that the experience brought about by human suffering needs external motivation to aid the families of the patient and the patient’s themselves to cope with the various depths, durations and intensities that the experience brings. Building relationships helps in the alleviation of feelings of unease among the sick, even when their care process is long-term (Burack, et al. Through the theory, it has been possible to build on the hope of the patients and enabling them to gain the courage that helps the, acknowledge any possible shortcomings and deal with any fears of suffering or pain and thus helps them in moving forward in their ultimate goal of healing.
