We became close since then till now though we rarely visit each other like before. Currently, I can define him as money motivated, he can take any job or challenge that brings more money. He has resigned from three jobs from the past four years simply because he felt the organizations are not too ambitious and would drag his success. He has a tradition of always upgrading such that he cannot stay with old devices when new upgraded devices are already in the market. Sometimes I do not understand what he is saying when he is talking about how some technology can be advanced to unimaginable levels. It is possible for someone to have both traits with one being more dominant than the other.

He is not agreeable since all he wants is to challenge everything not knowing many of the people are comfortable with the current technology. I introduced my friend to him one day who had a broken laptop, and I knew he could repair it other than waiting weekdays to take it to a shop. After checking it the first statement he uttered was okay I will give her family discount because of my sister, it will cost fifty dollars to repair plus buying spare parts. As we left my friend asked me if he bought the spare parts, he was claiming that fast. What makes him neurotic is the fact that he does not let people in his life. He does not want to feel vulnerable by letting people in his life then leaving as his parents did.

He is open to experience especially with his profession field where he always wants to know more and advance more forms of technology. He is very bright even back in school he was always top of his class, and he helped me a lot in school until I loved learning. His imaginations of how technology can be advanced to better the world makes me think like he is open to experience 100%. He is the type of person who is motivated by the desire to achieve the set goals. Approach motivation works for him perfectly, and I can testify that he is not a quitter even after many failed attempts in his experiments he will always keep on trying until he attains the desired goals.

Some people are better with avoidance motivation whereby one evades the risk or consequences of failing by not doing it at all. If he were like that, he would be a different person currently with no sense of direction. His needs can be classified according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs whereby basic physiological needs are the first to be solved before the rest. One can socialize with strangers as well as people he or she known. My cousin is not that social, but he fascinates me because he is always interested in researching more about how people socialize, how they interact with technology, and how to make them have a better relationship with technology. Mostly people who go through tragic incidences like Alfred tend to have an external locus of control making them not to be motivated at anything even education.

Alfred experienced a horrible divorce when he was young but created his internal locus of control making him always determined to be the best. Behavior modification can also be driven by an individual to himself or herself. I now understand that Alfred can be friendly at times although the chances are few because he has fewer percentages of being agreeable. I thought every human being has the same hierarchy of needs, but that is not true. Safety, security, and basic needs come first, but the rest does not matter how they follow. I now understand that to my cousin love and belonging might be at the last point of his hierarchy of needs. It is easy to modify behavior using various techniques, but the problem is how to reverse the behavior when the modified behavior is not suitable.
