Israels relation with Arab States
Therefore, it can be noted that the relationship of the Jews and the Arabs has not been so good especially those in the Middle East. Countries having conflicts cannot develop as every time they are having wars hence unable to trade or develop their countries. Therefore, economic issues of the Israel and the Arabs during this period was so poor and the trade was impossible. After Israel was declared a state, not all nation could recognize it as a state. Most of Arab states could not recognize it. A good relationship with neighboring countries ensures that there is a good condition as far as commerce and business is concerned as well as mutual prosperity between these nations. Though there are many Arabic states, not all of them have disputes with the Israel as some have negotiated for peace signing peaceful treaties.
Other states are still having disputes with the Israel nation. Moreover, it can be noted that of late, the relationship between Israel and Arab states is improving. After Israel was declared independent in1949, some countries recognized it as a state while others do not recognize it even up to date. The exchange of foreign currencies was also very important in improving trade and business in the region (Ma’oz, 25). The administration of the United State is working tireless in its effort to restore peace between the Israel nation and the Arab States. The strengthening relationship between Israel and the Arab nations have made it easier for them to cooperate in a number of issues such as energy, security and even to an extent of sharing resources. It is unthinkable that despite a long dispute between these nations, there could be such agreement leading to good relationship.
This research paper aims at exploring the relationship between the Israel and the Arab States. More research has been carried out by various scholars to establish the facts about the Israel conflict between the Arab States. Little studies have been carried out to establish the relations between Israel and the Arab states. Therefore, this paper aims at conduction research based on different literature to establish the relationship between the Israel and the Arab State. Therefore, a question may be formulated as “What relations exist between the Israel and the Arab states?” This question is promoted to give details of the nations which Israel has established relations with and whether these relations have a positive impact to these countries or not. Significance of the study The findings of this research will be helpful to the readers for it will add to the body of literature important information.
The Israel’s ministry of foreign affairs in the 2000s reported that the increasing influence of the EU would isolate Israel in the global affairs. To avoid this, Israel made a diplomatic relationship with some of the Muslim nations which had an earlier unfriendly relationship with it. By the year 2011, Israel had made a diplomatic relationship with European nations such as Greece, Cyprus. It had also improved its relationship with the Energy Triangle and in Asia including India and China (Lee, 999). This relationship with many nations led to improvement of economy in the Israel. Though announcement of this ban was expected as it is expected in the WTO that members of this organization cannot implement a total ban of goods and services with another (Polakow-Suransky, 72). The conflict of Israel with Arab started long time.
Saudi Arabia was against Israel when it supported Palestinian right to sovereignty and its call for Israel to withdraw from the territory alleged to be possessed by the Palestine since 1967. In 2002, Prince Abdullah send a peace proposal to Israel for peaceful withdrawal from the territories so as to solve the conflict about the land disputes but Israel did not respond to this offer. The significance of Israel-Arab States relations Over many years, the regional leaders surrounding Israel could make trips around other members within the region but exclude Israel. Recently, the Israel Minister of Intelligence Affairs was interviewed by the Saudi Arabian newspaper where he emphasized on the cooperation between the two countries and even requesting the Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman to visit Israel. The same newspaper interviewed the Chief of the Staff General Gadi Eizenkot who reported the possibility of exchanging ‘intelligence information” and “experience.
” According to the report of Al Jazeera, Israel has become a “potential partner” to the Saudi Arabia as a new phase in the Middle-East. Due to decline of the US power in Middle-East, “the Israel take part in the Middle-East and therefore, fill the gap that has been left by the US foreign policy. In 2015, after the Saudi Arabia felt abandoned by the US in negotiating the Iran deal, Israel was the only possible partner to cooperate with (Landau, 98). In 2013, protests were seen in Morocco where the movie showing the Jewish community was show (Landau, 97). This is clear discrimination about the Israel community in the Muslim world. Israel has gone through many challenges even after signing peaceful agreement with some nations. For example, in 1997, the peaceful agreement with Jordan was followed by massacre were the Jordanian soldier killed seven Israeli children.
Surprisingly, the soldier was welcomed in Jordan as a hero after he spend some period in prison. The Israel military also provided the civilians with the basic foodstuff and any kind of aid they needed. The rebels’ leaders also claimed to have received funding from the Israel for purchasing firearms (Lee, 1000). It has been noted that there are security ties between the Palestinian Authority and the Israel. With the support of the US, this Palestinian-Israeli relationship is aimed at restoring peace between these states. The military officers of the both nations have shared threats and are supporting each other in ensuring a stable security in the two nations. These diplomatic relations have helped Israel a lot in improving its economic sector as a result of enhancing bilateral trade with the nations it has establish these diplomatic relationships (Guo, 120).
The regional conflicts in the Middle-East had a great effect on the global economy in both short-term and long-term. The military conflicts between nations also lead to instability between those nations hence disrupting the economic development. The existing literature has indicated that there were military conflicts between the Israel and the Arab States. These military conflicts had a great negative effect to the trade and businesses hence leading to poor economic development. Lee (1002), religious belief has a great influence on the trading behavior since the shared religion means having similar values such as trust to each other hence creation of network which facilitates transactions. The relation of Muslims and the Jews have negative effect on the trade flows which has been facilitated by long-lasting conflicts between them. The danger of the relations between the Israel and the Arab Sunni States During the rule of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, many development changes have been seen happening as a result of the cooperation between the Israel and the Sunni Arab states.
The Prime Minister emphasized this saying that what has happened during has never happened in the history of Israel even when they had signed agreement with the Sunni Arab States. This meant that the cooperation between the Israel and the Arab States is so strong now and has led to various improvement in many sectors such as the economy as well as restoring peace between these states (Parsi, 610). Several administrative amendments have also been made to work partner with the local municipal committees in the settlement matters hence absorbing more Jews. The great danger does not lie only on the Israeli noticing of some of the Arab government keenness to improve their relationship with Israel while developing. There is indication that Arab position on the liquidity has been forced the American to embrace unprecedented position in due to lack of fairness toward the Palestinians.
The ambassador of the America to Tel Aviv denied a claim that Israel is occupying the West Bank. It is clear that some of the Arab States are normalizing their relations with the Israel only to contribute to the Israel’s adoption of the increasing extremist and radical position toward the conflict hence not the best interest for these nations (Landau, 96). Some of the Arab countries opposed this action of partitioning Palestine to establish this new state, which led to Arab-Israeli war in 1948. Since it was declared independent, there was establishment of the government as the military operation was still ongoing. The United States recognized this provisional government as the de facto authority of Israel. Iran also recognized it although it had voted against the plan of the UN to partition Palestine.
Other countries which recognized Israel as the de facto were Iceland, Guatemala, Uruguay, Romania and Nicaragua. This include 18 members of the Arab States which are; Tunisia, Somalia, Sudan, Algeria, Comoros, Morocco, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Libya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Djibouti, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The other 13 members of UN who do not recognize Israel are; Chad, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Bhutan, Mali, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Niger, Pakistan and Indonesia. Sixteen of these members who do not recognize Israel do not accept Israeli passports. The History of the Arab-Israel conflict The Arab-Israeli conflict started at 19th century. The conflict between the Israel and Arab states started when Israel was declared independence hence being partition from Palestine in 1948. The Arabs planned to invade Israel but their invasion was denounced by the United States, Soviet Union and UN secretary-general.
The Arabs who had been left in the territories which was now being owned by the Israel were fled and other were expelled. Similarly, those left in the Arab side also fled or were expelled (Guo, 114). The conflict ended with the Israel signing several peace agreements with the neighboring states such as Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. During this war, it is estimated that about 711, 000 Arabs were displaced by Israeli hence becoming refugees in the neighboring counties. The Arab States were not impressed with this plan hence declaring war against the Israel. This war made many Palestine who were living in the area newly occupied by the Jews were expelled from the region hence becoming refugees in the neighboring countries. The Israel government since then started establishing relations with other nations for their economic benefits.
It can be noted that of late the relationship between the Israel and Arab States is improving. The Prime Minister of the Israel recently announced they cooperation with the government of Saudi Arabia in matters relating to security, natural resources and development between the two nations. Those some nations do not recognize it as a state, they should continue calling for peaceful relationship with them. Additionally, it can be noted that although religious differences play a major role in the relationship between the nations, this should not affect the relationship between Jews (Israel) and the Muslims (Arabs). Putting all differences aside is the best way to ensure that the nations are able to prosper in their political, social and economic activities. Therefore, Israel should continue establishing its relation with the Arab State hence being in a position to ensure peaceful coexisted as well as cooperation and development in their operation.
