After joining hand with Jiang and overthrowing the Japanese, Mao decided to overthrow Jiang and have China to himself and his philosophies. He defeated Jiang, and immediately a new external threat revealed itself during the cold war as the USA was supporting South Korea during the Korean war. Mao was afraid of making China vulnerable to the USA if they controlled Korea; hence he joined the war to support North Korea. As a leader, he believed that support from the citizens and violence were necessary if he needed to be successful in making China a peaceful communist country. Mao Zedong Mao Zedong was one of the most influential leaders in China; he was born back in 1893 and died in 1976. Before the civil war, China was even worse since it was divided into three parts during the Second Sino-Japanese War of 1937.

2 The three parts ruling China included; the Japan colonies, Communist colonies, and the Nationalists colonies. The two Chinese military forces became allies under the slogan United Front to defeat Japan. The Japanese accepted defeat from these two military forces back in 1945. Millions of Chinese people had perished following these wars, and after the Japanese withdrew from the war, the remaining two military forces agreed to work together. Although Mao won, he inherited a country that was economically depleted, unstable, and divided. China had faced a great, exhausting civil war starting from the time of Japanese conflict that led to millions of casualties and millions displaced. Mao was brave and very influential, he managed to increase his grip on China by the end of 1948 forcing Jiang to call for peace talks because Mao was almost conquering Beijing.

Beijing was the central zone for the Nationalist military forces; hence Mao had to win Beijing and guarantee success since the remaining force was powerless compared to the power of CCP forces. The peace meetings were also to be supervised by the Soviet Union and the United States, but Mao refused to accept Jiang’s offer. The two Korean leaders Syngman Rhee of anti-communist South Korea and Kim II-sung of communist North Korea demanded sole legitimate Korean government of the entire Korea land. 4 This conflict was based on border allegations, but they started officially when Kim’s North Korean military forces crossed the set border to attack the north. The Korean war involved the United States supporting and the Soviet Union and China supporting South Korea and North Korea respectively.

It lasted from June of 1950 to July of 1953. Mao had recently ended the Civil War of China, but because he had interests in North Korea, he joined the Korean war even before helping his country heal after decades of civil war. Mao thought that the USA intended to dominate the intermediate zone and later destroy the communist bloc. After the coalition of the United Nations forces to push Kim’s forces close to the Chinese border made Mao act quickly. Mao debated with other Chinese leaders on whether to send troops to help North Korea. He also discussed with the Soviet Union ambassador Stalin to join forces and help North Korea. Mao had the People’s Liberation Army that was expected to invade Taiwan, but he resisted due to increased naval forces of the USA.

Conclusion To sum up, Mao was one of the leaders who made China be among the superpower countries in the world. He formed a communist party using his education and skills as a soldier, and from then he was dedicated to uniting and liberating China. He started by fighting the Japanese together with the Nationalists, but he did not forget his ultimate intention of uniting China. After winning against the Japanese, he moved on to overthrow the Nationalist by taking Beijing and forming a centralized government to rule China called the People Republic of China.
