New York City sustainability effort in addressing climate change

Educating people on problem that the whole world is facing and caused by climate change, gives people opportunity to work on helping in conserving environment. Human activities are the main contributor to environmental change. This is because many activities that people undertake on daily bases cause emission of poisonous gases to the atmosphere. Also human activities cause cutting down of trees that help in conserving environment. Educating people on effects of their activities to the environment help in making them work on conserving environment by changing the way they undertake their activities hence ensuring safe and clean environment. Developers and real estate players are being encouraged to install solar panels and set up solar energy stations so as to provide solar energy to industries, businesses and homesteads which is clean energy.

This move is aiming on reduction of carbon emission to the environment by fuel ran power generators (Wheeler 2014). Sustainability and reliability of solar energy in New York City and the whole world depends on the facilities that rely on the produced energy. Environmentalists have been working closely with the electronic machines and gargets manufacturers to see production of electronics that can rely on solar energy. Manufacturing of electric house appliances and other industrial electronics that can be ran by solar energy guarantees reliability of solar energy hence helping in conservation of environment by reduction of gases emission to the atmosphere (Graham 112-124). Vehicle buyers are being encouraged to go for environmental friendly cars to ensure they help in conserving environment (Graham 112-124).

Half of New York City residents do not own cars which helps in regulation of the carbon gases emitted to atmosphere. Gases are well known for the destruction of the ozone layer hence exposure to infections such as skin cancer. Also, the public transport has been expanded and massive improvement done to reduce environmental pollution caused by gas emissions from vehicles (Adaptation to climate change in Southern Africa: New boundaries for development 2015). The municipal vehicles are either electric or hybrid or even run on biodiesel which is less harmful to environment. Deforestation is playing being part in climate change because many places become deserts or arid and semi-arid because of deforestation. New York City authorities are discouraging deforestation by enacting tough policies that govern logging and trees cutting.

There are set plans on controlling logging and ensuring replacement of cut trees to ensure the green land coverage is not affected by logging (Pasquini 60-70). Afforestation measures have been set by environmental bodies to ensure that trees are plant to help in controlling climate change in New York City. Government facilitates planting of trees in unused land so as to ensure there is large tree coverage in New York and its environment which help in controlling climate change. This gives New York City authorities responsibility to prevent environmental pollution on the surroundings and within the city. Considering the population in the city, there are many activities that take place there that can lead to environmental pollution. Transport sector is the main contributor to emission of poisonous gases to the environment.
