Nursing Philosophy and Parse's Theory of Nursing Practice
Document Type:Research Paper
Subject Area:Nursing
Shame, trust, humiliation, and reverence for others constitute some characteristics of man. Nurses should consider the health of patients as a priority and strive to improve the living quality of patients by being accommodative. Nursing is both a profession and a discipline which promotes high standards of patient care consistent with principles and concepts in Parse’s theory. The Nature of the Individual The human becoming theory assumes that man is free to make choices depending on the situations that arise. A human being can make meaning of a situation and bear responsibility for decisions made in different circumstances. The patient might not be comfortable with the procedure especially if the one doing it is a male while the patient is female. Shame destroys the dignity of a person. I believe that it is important to consider the perception of patients towards certain medical procedures to avert every possibility of shame or discomfort.
According to the Bible, shame is a negative feeling which should not be encouraged in anything that we do. The Bible even talks about Jesus Christ who despised the shame of the cross to save fallen humanity. Once a patient comes to the hospital with bad health, many players have an integral role to play in ensuring that the patient finds complete restoration to have good health. The family members have a role to play in offering emotional support to the patient to provide the appropriate psychological state for recovery. There are Christian perspectives on health promotion which integrate Christian approaches to scientific research to come up with effective strategies to promote the health of patients. Social support, self-esteem, and reduction of anxiety come from an active connection with God. The results of a good relationship with God include positive health habits and balanced life (Schaffer, Sandau & Missal, 2017).
The main objective of the discipline is to increase knowledge on people’s experiences through research and innovative conceptualization. The knowledge accumulated gives a scientific guide for living the art of nursing. Nursing as a discipline entails different theories and various frameworks rooted in the simultaneity and totality paradigms. Simultaneity considers human beings as unitary while totality considers humans as possessing body, mind, and spirit. Nursing as a profession constitutes people educated according to the regulatory body standards. Living true presence gives respect to people together with their different views of living quality. The Smith family highlights an example of living the art. The family living with dementia shows how Parse’s theory is important in the nursing practice. The family understood the problem that grandma had so they made adequate adjustments to suit the situation.
For example, instead of having problems with chores, Frank offers to help so that the burden of the work is no longer a problem. Parse’s theory outlines that phenomena can be understood through values and beliefs of a given culture. Also, the short story is consistent with living true presence which respects and appreciates patients. The story shows a determination to understand every patient. References Doucet, T.
